I just ordered set of power pulleys from OBX. This is the 2nd time i've ordered them. The first time they told me they dont have any. Well if I get them how much HP would I be looking at? You get 2 pulleys. 1 alternator pulley, 1 power steering pulley. I would think about 3-5HP. And I'll let everone know if I ever get them.

Yea... they shouldn't be used with an underdrive pulley, because the obx pulleys are probably underdrived too. You wouldn't make enough revolutions to have a functioning alternator.

No, accessory pullies should be overdrive pullies, not underdrive. The smaller your pulley accessory diameter the more power it takes to spin it. So if you have a stock crank pulley you would want larger accessory pullies to make it easier on your crank pulley.

yeah but if the pulley is bigger than it takes more power to equal 1 revolution of a smaller pulley.

i'm gonna think this out as i type here.

we're dealing with a constant amount of power so we can't say adjusting the speed of the pullies at different sizes would affect the outcome. we have a constant variable. so smaller pullies would give an accessory more power than it wants at this given amount of power. in order for this to work we would need to pick up the slack on another pulley. with two smaller pullies we need a larger pulley to pick up the belt slack.

underdrive pullies are larger than stock. being larger means they let the crank spin slower therefore decreasing drive. so they allow the crank to spin less to power the accessories therefore freeing power. if the OBX pullies don't work with an overdrive pulley than that would mean that they are larger than stock as well because smaller pullies combined with a larger underdrive pulley would cancel out and it would be possible for them both to work. so larger accessory pullies means the pullies spin less given the constant amount of power. so you would be running your accessories at less than 100% which would also free power because your draining your accessories.

i forget what my point is now. but this all seems logical imo. someone correct me or point me where i need to go here.

I'm not asking if they will work togeather. I have AFX UDP and I'm going to add tese OBX pulleys if I ever get them. If my alterntor puts out less power then so be it. I just want to know if anyone knew what HP I would get from these?

right but the only way it can all work is if either

A. the accessory pullies are smaller which would make both mods together cancel each other out

B. the accessory pullies are larger and come with a larger belt to accomodate the larger accessory pullies and the larger crank pulley.

if choice B is the case than it's possible that you could be underdriving your accessories to much. usually pulley kits work because they save weight being alluminum instead of steel. having pullies that change the drive characteristics to much can only cancel out your previous mod or possibly give to much underdrive and cause your lights to dim and your battery to wear faster.

Ok I see at OBX's website that the pulleys are oversize. I also have the AFX UDP. So should they be OK or not. I'm almost positive the the AFX is smaller and the OBX's are bigger so they should cancel out?

Yeah, they are an either or situation. If you have the AFX then spend your money for the OBX ones on something else. You're gonna waste your time.

Remember, your alternator has to work to some degree "I don't care if my alternator doesn't put out as much" isn't gonna cut it. Your car has to have that power to work.
