#43010, "did i get p&p carried away"

i recently ported and polished my t.b. thanks to the helpful write up and really didn't notice much of a difference, but anyways, my question is i got carried away with shinning things up and decided to try to polish the intake manifold. I didn't take it off but i took the dremel w/a sand paper bit and sanded down all that crap so it was shiney. I didn't even think that that could have been a ceramic coat, did i screw it up?

if i didn't ruin anything by taking off that coat, i'd reccomend this to everyone, it seriously shines like chrome and looks like a new one . Another thought though, will it rust now?

You're going to need to polish it very often to keep it looking good also to keep it from corroding. As long as you did'nt do that on the inside of the intake you did'nt hurt anything. emoji

Actually, inside the intake manifold is what I would port and polish, myself. This substantially imrpoves airflow and velocity. The inside of the manifold is also sand cast and looks like the outside. Porting and polishing this will speed the airflow going into the motor, and make up for the 18.5" long runners. As for the outside, there is nothing to damage, it is just aluminum. Just keep it polished up nice and shiny...

hey B.. i think he was refering to polishing the inside of the intake manifold while it was on the car.. that would be a bad thing. emoji

Im surprised you didn't see any difference with your TB. I noticed something when I did mine, but oh well. I'm with Bill... my intake manifold is next on my list.

hehe... good point. Since I did my own manifold a little while ago, I just assumed that everybody had their manifold just sittin' in there in the garage. I forget that these cars actually run sometimes.

buwahaaaa

It can be a bad thing to port and polish while the manifold is on the car. You produce metal shaving, debris. If this gets in the motor it can create small scratches, etc. If you just polished up the outside, you're fine.
