I need some advice as to where to start first, clutch or Transmission..

Symptoms:

During normal driving on the freeway at a constant speed, the shifter will move out of gear, not by itself, but I can basically push it out of gear without the clutch.

The other symptom is from a standstill, when I take off whether I slowly let out the clutch or quickly...the engine and tranny will skake around...


So, clutch or tranny or both??

my car knocks out of gear without clutch too. i think it's normal for us. going into gear without using the clutch would be a bigger problem. not sure about the shaking.

thanks, according to a co-worker, he said the same that it was normal.

But about the second issue of the car shaking about when I take off after a day of driving, any thoughts???

explain what you do the cause it and what it does some more. is it like a violent bouncing when you dump the clutch at higher RPMS? that could be wheel hp not actually your motor.

As I understand wheel hop, it is when you let out the clutch to "burn rubber" but instead of a nice screech the front wheels bounce.




When I let out my clutch from a stand still trying to go normal speed the whole engine and I think Tansmissions seems to shake...

ohhhhh. motor mounts most likely. might be time to get the energy suspension motor mounts.

how many miles are on it? do you drive it hard?

Very good reply.....I would agree on the motor mounts. Mine had a similar problem for a couple days and when I investigated, I found my main rear motor mount bolt was missing.

I then used a new bolt/lock washer and loctite on the threads without anymore problems.

You could also have problems if the rubber is completely shot in the mounts. This happens when they start to dry rot and crack. It is best to buy new ones. You can use the inserts as well, but I am just replying to your problem at hand. BTW: inserts do not fix wasted rubber motor mounts.....get new ones. We have had people use a hard drying silicone to make a temp fix. This would be another topic.

Another thing to check is the brace that the front and rear motor mount are attached to. If the brace itself is loose, this could cause the twisting/rattling when starting to move the car.

You get the idea.

If you still cannot find where it is coming from, have someone drive your car, stand along side of the engine bay with the hood open and have them move the car forward by letting out the clutch. You will be able to hear where the nois is coming from and pinpoint your problem. Make sure the hood is secure. Might want to tape the arm up in the hole to make sure it does not pop out if the hood moves.

Damn, didn't think about hte mounts, but judging from you what you sayand what I "feel" when driving, that just might be it.


I've got more than 85,000, and sometimes I do drive hard..geese there goes my tax refund: Possible motor mounts, suspension, and most likely PS belt....
