#42858, "Engine/transmission question"

Hi
Im Jennifer and new to the forums. Just wanted to introduce myself and get that out of the way...

Anyway.. Im having some transmission problems with my 95 Eclipse and was wondering how much trouble it would be or if possible at all that the transmission out of a non awd 97 eclipse would fit... and second question Would a lancer evo III 4G63T motor fit in my car and what other modifications would I have to do to this engine/transmission swap?

By the way my car has a 5spd. transmission (not sure what kind) just whatever came stock... and has the 420a engine.

I figure if I can do these swaps and add an intake and exhaust and a new engine harness and cams and header that should get me up to around 300 or so hp... so I would appreciate and accept any advice given..
Thanks
Jenn~

Hi Jennifer, welcome to the board!

What type of tranny problems are you having? Are you sure it's not something that can be fixed? What are the symptoms? I believe the 95 and 97 trannies are the same, so you should be able to swap them if you need to.

As far as swapping a 4g63 engine and tranny.....short answer is NO. It's too expensive and difficult. You could rebuild your engine and turbocharge it for about the same price.

When we get the Things seen before section back up and running, there are some lengnthy discussions on the swap and why it is not worth it. For he money you can build and turbocharge the 420A and in my opinion have a better motor. From the sounds of the last sentance you were looking for 300hp without a turbo? If so that would be very difficult to reach and probably not really a street car at this point. The question is, how fast do you want to go? *edit* And how deep are your pockets? emoji

The tranny from a 97 should bolt up just fine. No modification needed.

Well, my synchronizers went out and when I start to accelerate from 1st gear it sounds like my tranny is fixing to fall out from underneath the car... but Im glad to hear the 97 tranny will fit emoji thanks guys. but on the other hand, yes I was hoping for around 300hp out of the turbo'd 4g63 I was thinking about getting but wasnt so sure about the costs or difficulty of doing this swap. I have heard a lot of good things about those certain engines and thats one of the main reasons I wanted to put it in my car... it seems like my car has been in the garage for repairs for the most time I have owned, but the owner before me treated her bad so Im trying to restore her back up but with little money to start with. I figured I could sell the motor that I have now and come up with a little bit of money for the other motor if I decided to get it. Junkyards are great if you can find a good motor with not many miles on it, they usually have them at a pretty good price. But right now Im just looking around trying to see what I can do and what will work best with what...
