i just got an AEM CAI, and people have been telling me to get a bypass valve. Is it worth it or is it a waste of money?

thats up to you, i heard they dont last very long. I bought some aluminum flashing from the hardware store and fabed a cover to go from the bumper to the wheel well under the air filter to keep the spray from the tires from getting on the filter. And it works, w/o it I may have lost my motor by now, i've hit some nasty puddles w/no prob. peace

dont do it. if you keep your intake filter oiled you won't have a problem. unless you go thru a bigg ass puddle and the filter goes under the warterr

I have talked to some people, and they say that it is pretty restrictive to the air flow...and you will lose a little power. And to hydrolock your engine...the filter would almost have to be totally submerged under water. So i dont think it would be worth it imo.

yeh bypass valve sucks, i had an aem cold air for almost a year and went in some decent rain puddles and nothing happened at all. save your money and dont cut your precious aem in half, lol. i have heard a little water is actually good and cleans the intake path, but thats just what i heard.

intake, 2.5 exhaust w/gst muffler, pacesetter header, msd wires, ngk plugs, port and polish throttlebody, front and rear strut bars, 1.5' tenzo springs, 17" primax rims, kuhmo tires, leather interior, gsx sideskirts, BM shortshifter, GM fluid in trans...

I personally have the by-pass filter and will not go without it. It's installed on a '97 Eagle Talon, so the filter is exposed to the front in the brake ducts.

I drove one day in the winter and the slush on the filter caused some problems.

Once you install the filter, but a cheap short ram filter for winter. If you try to take the bypass off and install the filter in it's place, you will break the by-pass and they you're out $50.

i too had it, gave it to a friend. i do one of two things when it's raining hard out and i have to drive:

1. take off bottom half of intake and run the short air
2. keep my car in the garage and ride with someone else!! emoji
