Has anyone used the AEM stand alone EMS?? I am thinking of getting this instead of the hks or apex-i AFRs.. i've done some research and found it to have far more superior tunning capabilities then any of the AFRs..

i'm not worried bout cost or installation, i'm just curious if anyone has used it and if so.. how is it working out for you? problems.. working great..etc.. (using a laptop for programing of course).. please let me know any info you can on this product

well being the only 2gnt out of 22 dsms that i normally chill with, they all say the same thing......AEM is the best, by far easiest to tune, even better then dsm link, Second, if ur cute, will u merry me?, i would love to merry a girl who knows bout dsm's!

I don't *THINK* that anyone on here is using the AEM unit. None that I have seen anyway.

Performance: Stuff that makes my car run better or go faster

Looks: Stock because looks doesnt make my car go faster or run better

Weight Reduction: CF Hood, No A/C or Powersteering Accessories, No rear interior

I would rather have a Haltech myself....then maybe a AEM

Well going stand alone is going to be real hard without base maps to make the car run right. You will have to program every aspect of operation. At this point unless you own a dyno and have it in the back yard I would reccomend not going stand alone. If there was an option for our cars that had a base program then it would be a no brainer. For right now though, you may want to look into the greddy eo1 and emanage combo. From the results James & Murix have had it looks like it takes care of most of the things a turbo 2gnt needs. If you go the AEM route I wish you luck, and make a record of all the base settings if you do so others can follow in your foot steps. BTW what do you do for a living if you don't mind me asking, not to many people could afford to drop that kind of cash. I might need to look into a new career...

Exactly! And even w/ a base map shit is still a pain in the ass. There is absolutely no such thing as an easy standalone system. Yes some are more user friendly but that still doesn’t make the tuning of the system any more simple.

The safc and afr are piggy backs that use stock fuel maps. Not only do you have to write fuel maps but you also have to write ignition maps as well. It isn’t the same as putting an afc on and taking a few pulls on a dyno. W/o a base map it would be a VERY long process (by very long I mean a few days and a tone of test driving, both daily and WOT)

I'm not trying to be an ass I'm just giving you a heads up on what you are getting into. A standalone makes a daily driver no longer a reliable daily driver and is one big pain in the ass at times. But it definitely has a ton of benefits, like 30psi ,quick e/t's and power.

The lack of a base map for our car is why no one has it on this board. You will plug it all in and the car wont run, people like to plug and play in most cases.

But like said above, if you get it make a million notes and get a real good base map. Pave the way for others.

thanx guys for the heads up.. i havnt made any def. decisions .. i was just curious what others have done .. the good points and bad ones.. so i could decide the best route to go=).. I'll let u guys know what i do when its done.. It goes in the shop next week to get started.. if i end up going AEM then i'll def. keep records and post em for others to follow..if not .. we'll i'm sure someone else in the future will eventually=)..thanx again guys for your help!=)
