Has anyone does this swap? That is put the neon 3 speed on your car in place of your stock auto or stock mt?

I was talking to someone at Howell Automotive (Gary?) and he was telling me to switch to the neon 3 speed. He said that I could run a faster 1/4 mile w/ it and that it is way stronger than the stock mt on our cars. He said Mopar tested it to hold something like 390fpt before it failed. I guess they have some stuff available on their site to make it even stronger.

I know Len at HRC had an mt on his drag car and then switch to a mt tranny.

I was just curious if anyone has heard of or done this swap yet? It would take a little bit of custom work like swapping the neon ends of the axles onto our axles so that they could connect to the tranny. The starter might be an issue as well as the cables for the gear select.

It is definitely interesting...

Brian

Auto and fast???? naw.. every ricer knows auto's are fast.. emoji

Yup.. that 3sp packs a punch.. there's a reason why the fastest dodges are usin it

It's non-computer controlled (aka MANUAL) and has enough goodies to take whatever punishment you throw at it..

put it this way.. our manual is rated to 160ft-lbs..

netural drops.. no problem.. just as long as your axles and motor mounts can take it.. phantom grips for em.. clutch type LSD's.. and 3 speeds of fun (and converter lockup)

you want to go fast in a straight line consistently.. auto is where its all at..

You may need the inboard axle cups to get the correct spline count and length of shaft.. but everything else should bolt up.. easy way to check is to see if the auto axles are the same part # as the manual ones..

who cares about drive train losses.. up the boost a bit more emoji

Exactly!

It's done more than spark and interest. Adding up total I think it could all be done for less than 1000.00

this tranny is the forward motion tranny and the same one level ten builds

tranny is running in the phat ridz car(9.07second) 750hp

the tranny from forward motion is 1400$ and 900$ for the torque converter

its basically a really fast shifting manual transmission that locks in gear so it wont pop out, without a clutch, u have to shift it 1-2-3 it will not shift itself

so it like driving a 5speed without a clutch basically

if u figure it this way no expensive clutch to buy to flywheel to resurface torconverters usually dont go out its a nice tranny setup for stright line racing...

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.
