Heres what they look like. If you look at the black valves, on 2 of the cylinders, you can see a slight shadow at the bottom. There are 4 bent valves total and they are raised not quite 1/4 inch at the bottom of each valve. It seems to me that my valve guides and seats should be fine, so I am going to order a set of stainless valves and call it good. Where did those of you who have stainless swirl polished valves get them?

If everything has to come apart so you can replace the valves, you should look into replacing the valve guides too. Better to be sure than have to take everything apart again to replace a bad guide or two. I wouldn't want to see that happen to you after you got the new valves in and the engine together.

The pistons look fine. You can see small areas on the outer edges on the inside of the valve pockets where there is no carbon. They did not do any physical damage to the pistons though from the looks of it. Is it possible that the valves hitting could slightly bend the ring lands on the pistons? I dont remember how far down the 1st ring is on the JE's... maybe I should go look lol.

I doubt it from the damage you're describing, Matt. When I picked up my 1g AWD with bent valves, it was a whole lot worse than your scenario with 10 benty valves and fairly marked dimples in the pistons. Even after that, the car runs brilliantly (after a head rebuild).
