probably not much more then your 420a (if you are talking a non-turbo jdm engine) and i'm curious why you are wondering.. cause the 'JDM' engines are mitsu 4g63 motors.. not 420a's.

there are no jdm engines for the eclipse that you can swap so don't waste your time looking. If you realy want to do JDM crap to your car buy a honda or nissan.

ya, but that is made by mitsuibishi, mitsubishi is a japanese company, so therefore they will make a engine in japan. just about every japanese car manufacture has a jdm equivalent.

maybe i just didn't understand the context of your reply.

*sigh*

Yes, there were Eclipses in the Japanese and European market. Funny how this keeps popping up.

As for the "Cyclone" motor, that is just a regular 4g63 with a different intake manifold. Not all of them had larger injectors and a 16G turbo. The Cyclone intake was on many of Mitsubishi's 4 cylinder engines, not just the turbo ones. Even the 1.8L engine from the base Eclipse had a cyclone intake in Japan. (I've seen it). All it did was change the length of the intake runners from long to short for more torque on the low end and more power up top.

I bought a JDM engine for a GSX that I co-owned at the time. (It now fully belongs to HybriDSM on this board). The engine was actually from a Japanese Eclipse. Stock 14B turbo, 450cc injectors, and regular intake manifold. I swear I've never seen a used 4G63 in that good condition though. The turbo didn't even have any cracks in the turbine housing. I would buy another if I needed to after seeing how well this one went.

ok here goes *RANT* I know about the jdm engine however for those that don't know its not an easy swap the cams and TB are opposite sides then the US 4g63 and thats just the start of the problems you will have. I have never heared one peson who bought a JDM 4g63 and got a 16g on it so I am not sure where that got started but as far as I know its false. The FTO is not an eclipse we never had one in the US. JDM engine have under 30k on them because after that the owners have to go through very strict testing and its cheaper to junk the car and buy a new one. I have a jdm mazda engine in my room and its so f@#$ing clean its unreal. So once again you want a jdm engine buy a civic or a 240sx and swap away.

I'd like to add some clarification here. The EVO and Cyclone engine are similar* but not the same. The EVO comes with a 16G and the Cyclone does not (14B as previously stated)

Many people hear/read about this and easily confuse them. The EVO are 280PS and the Cyclones are 220PS. PS ISN'T HP this is the conversion:

1.0 Japanese/German PS = 0.98632 BHP (Brake Horspower)

PS is German for (their version) horsepower: 1. Pferdestärke = das Pferd (the horse) + die Stärke (the power) Anyway:
1 HP (Japanese/German)= 550 (LB*Feet)/Sec = 745.69987 Watts = 1.01387 HP
1 PS = 75 (Kg*g*meter)/Sec = 735.49875 Watts = .98632 PS (Japanese/German)

I threw in the extra just for fun emoji

^^^ you got that part wrong.. the cam gears and TB are NOT on the opposite side of the engine, the engine is mearly turned the other way in the engine bay of some cars that have the 4g63.

Acutally both Breezio and Slacker are both right..
The DID have TWO orienations..

The orientation were the cam gears are on the right was in the American DSMs, and was in the EVO 1-3.

The other orientation (same as ours), were as the cam gears are on the left side, was used later on, American 3G 2.4L Eclipse, and the EVO 4+..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no "Cyclone" engine.. there is the Cyclone Manifold, but besides that, there is nothing cyclone about it emoji.

And I'm not trying to be negative.. but this reminds me of a few months back, when that guy said he found a JDM 420A? emoji..

if the engine was turned the other way (180 deg) then the exhaust would be on the back correct?? yeah this is why I hate jdm crap lol. Thanks skrill for the PS vs HP I had been wondering what the actualy convesion was I knew 1 hp was slighty more (or less depending on how you want to look at it sorry) then 1 PS but did not know the actual nembers for each emoji

yeah, unless you put switch the cams, it's like the 420a's the exhaust comes out the front or back depending on which car it is, and the only difference on the engine is that the cams are switched.

I would like to agree that are 2nd generation was never really introduced into the japanese market. Atleast thats my understanding.... An eclipse over there is a rare thing. Atleast I had a friend who went to tokyo to a car show recently and said that he dint see any and I read it somewhere else too (I can look it up if its important.) But, Mitsubishi is american owned, But I atleast have never heard of a JDM engine.
