#41892, "Just to clarify...about UDPs and stereo equip"

I have had my UDP for almost 2 years now and always had a minimum of 500 watts going in the back on 12s. Now with my tv, dvd, psx, xbox, camera, etc, touchpad computer, blah blah I STILL have not ever had an issue with my UDP running not enough volts to the car. I do not personally think it is a concern for us, guys. Just thought I would share, as I seen alot of UDP questions lately concerning idle and timing. The only issues I have ever had "electrical" wise are my cheap ass indiglos flickering on and off or not at all, and the squeaky belt in the mornings when it is cold. A mechanic also told me my tensioner bearings were shot, and the cause was the UDP, but hey I've been told otherwise about that situation by many other people. So do what you will, but I still highly recommend the UDP. Before anyone asks, I have the Unorthodox Racing 30% underdrive pulley as my UDP. thanks emoji

Yeah I have had my AFX UDP for about 6 months now and have had no issues other than the squeky belt on a cold morning. I have been running 900+ Watts to my system.

myke, unorthodox only makes a 20% underdrive, and i do agree with you that with the unorthodox pulley does not cause electrical issues, i have a 1250 watt system and i have not had issues with the unorthodox pulley, however, i previously had an afx pulley and that pulley will not support the system. the afx is a 30% underdrive. i noticed while comparing the 2 that the PS/AC part of the 2 pulleys is almost the same diameter, while tha Alternator part is larger on the unorthodox. I believe that the afx was made with more respect for power gains than making the car run correctly. just FYI When i had the AFX and a new alternator, my stereo turned up 1/4 and my headlights on. the voltage would drop to 10.9-11.2, now that was plain shitty, so i bought the unorthodox, which i feel is far superior in construction to the afx and that took care of all my problems. my voltage only drops lower than 12 volts when every accessory in the car is on.

My stereo is part of my pride and joy of the car. With my 3 amps I run 1260 watts and no problems. The one thing I haven't bothered getting was a cap (which I really need) 'cause at idle it can sometimes shutdown the car if I'm blasting it after a good sprint

I think generally the UDP does not cause an electrical problem. But if you have a electrical problem to begin with it will amplify the problem.

Yes Unorthodox originally put out 20% underdrive then switched to 30% after AFX made theirs.

I've had the UDP with around 500 watts to 2 12" in the back and had no problems. Unless you have an obscene underdrive the alternator will create resistance to create the proper amount of current.

Damn, my lights already dim and I don't got the pulley yet. Hahahah....wonder if the car would die, or the system would cut out if I got an UDP.
