#41710, "msd dis ignition and check engine light"

could having the ignition system cause me to throw a code? the code was P0352. ignition coil primary circuit #2 or something like that. i don't have the chilton book with me at the moment. anyways, i by-passed the msd today and left it un hooked. as of now, the check engine light went off and i have no codes. i didn't even have to reset the ecu. so i'm wondering, could it be my coil or the msd causing the check engine code? anyways, as long i pass emmissions, i'm strait.

Did you install the tach adapters? If you don't it will throw a code.

yeah, if i didn't install the tach adapter, then it wouldn't even work right. just like when you by-pass the msd ignition, you have to unhook the tach adapter. anyways, i have no check engine light as of now. so i can pass emmissions now. also, i can notice a difference without the msd hooked up. just a little less pep.

i just hooked up the dis 4 (same as dis 2 but you don't hook up channel 3 and 4) and got the check engine light. it runs great with out the tach adapter but it has the cel light on. i am hoping to pick up the adapter in a couple of days to fix the problem. anything else i should know about the ignition to fix the cel light problem.

98 GS, it's a work in progress. http://monkeywrench.mesanetworks.net

Don't let the fact that the cel is off fool you, more than likely the cose is still in the computer. I was tolsd that if it's not something really major the cel will go off but the code remains on the ecu. I had an injector running rich and the light had gone out; the I still ran a diagnostic and the code was still there, even though I'd had no cel. You might wanna look into that.
