I'm looking to install a new motor for my RS cuz' i spun a rod bearing. Can anyone tell me how much a new one costs? and if i buy a used motor, how much is it to get installed? last question....if i DO buy a used motor, Who do i report it to, the DMV?, or don't have to report it at all?

BTW- CAN or SHOULD i rebuilt my old motor, how much would that cost? TIA!!!

your options for swapping it = howell automotive/blackdog motorsports, few other places. Heard some nightmarish stories about Howell, so I stayed away. But they do give you an "all in one" package, a whole bottom block, everything together + machined + installed. Satan charges like.. 3,500 for a brand new bottom block, so dont even look there.

Or just hunt down all the parts you want yourself, depending on the shop, fees should be anywhere from 5-800. Machining fees are another story. I paid 450 for bore over .020, and 125 to get the head cleaned out. Cut me a deal cuz they took sodamn long. :0 Add cost of all the parts you need and hit "="

do you mean install it or build it? from the rest of what you said i would assume you mean intall a used motor in your car. if its a complete engine, the engine will probably cost between $400 and $800 depending on what kind of hookup you find. to have a shop install it for you depends on alot of things such as hourly rate and how much experience they have had working on the 420a. maybe you could find somebody here on the forum that is in your area that could do it cheaper.

it would probably be a little cheaper that way but you won't know the quality of the used engine unitl its in. it could be a piece of shit and fuck up on you after a week.

you could probably find a used neon for $1000-$1500. you could drive it until you have time to switch the blocks, then either rebuild the block or part it out. you could make your money back by parting it out.
