Man its cold here in toledo, but anyways as i was warming up my car. i noticed that there was a rattling noise coming from the right side of the engine, by the timing belt side, where my oil leak is. Ever since i got the HG replaced it has been making this noise. Is it because of the cold weather or is it that the mechanics didnt put the engime back together right.

It might be the clutch or throw-out bearing rattling. But thats on the driver side. I live in KS and when it gets below 30 it starts to rattle. I thore the trans. down and found nothing. I put a new clutch and throw-out bearing in and it still rattles. Hope this info helps.

It's possible that they didn't replace all of the rear timing belt cover bolts.
EDIT : Open the timing belt window at the top of the timing belt cover. Take a look at the timing belt. Are there wear marks on the outside of the belt? It would look like the outside half(the half thats closest to the motor) is rubbing on something. If you see these marks, there's a good chance that the rear timing belt cover wasn't installed properly.

Wait without that top timing belt cover your belt will get fuxed? I told mechanic to leave it off for bling factor but... if its gonna fuck me brand spankin' $80 gator grip up id wanna leave it on..
I know the risks of having it off because of little pebbles flying up, im not trippin about that... but just if the cover plays some part in keeping the belt aligned/in place ill put it on..

Does the sound go away after you've warmed up?
mine's doing the same thing. rattling sound while warming up. listen closely to the valve cover too. if it's coming from underneath the valve cover, it's your lifter/lashers. we talked about this in a previous thread but i can't seem to find it in the search. it has to do with our poor lifter/lasher design, oil and cold weather. the fix was to get the upgrade PT Cruiser lifters.

yea the noise does go away when the car warms up, but the thing is it didnt make this noise until after i got the head gasket fixed. Also i can hear it sometimes after i get do accelerating the gas. But then again it does it when the eengine is still alittle cold

i went and took it to the place that had fixed my head gasket, and they said that the rattling noise came from the adjustable cam gears i had installed. Supposedly, the cam gears have a nick in them and they are rubbing on the hg sealent and making it leak oil. They want to charge me another 800 dollars. or they said i could get an entire new head for 1500:o They also said the camshafts were poorly worn out too. I think theses people people are trying to get more money out of me. What do u guys think. If these things these people say are true. then im going to save my money and buy another car, but it will be turbo

Hey what shop is workin on your car? I grew up in Toledo. Maybe try and locate where exactly the noise is coming from. Your cams should not be worn out, and even if they were, they were not making any noise before the head gasket was done. Sounds to me like its somewhere in the timing belt path maybe, but could very well be in your valvetrain somewhere. Try and locate it if you can. I'd be wary of the shop that did your work.
