the differences in having a known shoop with expirence in porting is that there are certain flow characteristics for air and fuel, a shop knows what is gonna create power and more flow without sacrificing velocity, if u jsut hog out everyarea, u will sacrifice volocity and not improve much, the idea is to increase flow or the restrictions and keep it uniform not all buggered up on one port and not on another,
a shop will make sure every port is the same and they will ususually make it so it increases power and not looses, not everyone has talent in a very solid and sraight porting hand i know im not very good....
You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.
If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good. If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast. If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

The difference is experience and time. It is a time consuming process, which is why I'm surprised ARD does the good job they do for as little money. (not in any way sggesting you guys raise your prices )
It takes time to get all runners smooth and the size you want, and hopefully close in size and flow to each other.

Owen used to work for a cylinder head shop, doing nascar heads. Spent a long time there... he's good.
