I was driving home at midnight after work and this mutha pulled in front of me (made right turn) with his RIIIIIIIIIIICED out fuckin' Hyundai. I'm in the far right lane. Now, so is he; he blinks to the left, then doesn't go then blinks again and goes. So he finally gets the fuck out of the way, and I downshift to 2nd and FLOOR it. A little tire spin, a flick of the finger, and I'm off, I get to the light and make my left turn, barely. I figured the powersteering pump either went or the belt, it had been worn on the side, but I didn't change it.
Anyway I have to work early in the morning and won't mess with it since it's still drivable, but is it farily easy to put back on? How do I? Where's the tensioner? Do I need to go under the car? Keep in mind I'm still gonna use the same belt (temporarily) and it's still on the top pulley, which ever pulley that is.

You might want to be careful if u still wanna drive it. The one time I raced my car at a track, my p/s belts ripped off, not even sure why either...But anyhow, I made it 15 miles before my car died, because the belt also controls the alternator (i beleive) So w/out alternator, u r just running power from your battery.

Um, I checked the Chilton for just that reason, I believe that the power steering pump and A/C are the only accessories on this belt. If I'm wrong well shit. I'll probably have a dead car in the morning.

The belt coming off is actually common. It only controls the power steering and ac. Theory would tell you after some time it cause probs with the power steering pump. Practical experience tells me I dorve for 2 months without it on and no probs. then summer came and I desperately needed my ac back so on it went and no probs.

Actually to replace that belt you basically unscrew the middle nut on the tensioner pulley, than unscrew the bolt on the tensioner pulley so it gives you a little more room. Put new belt around the pullies, and tighten the tensioner back up and screw it tight. I have done this about 15 times the last 2 weeks. I now just have a belt that runs my power steering and said F*** the A/c because my a/c pulley was wobbly and thats what was throwing my belts off. Oh yeah you will have to go under your car for like 10 seconds to put the belt around the pullies.

Did it f*ck with your car to leave the AC belt off... hoew about when you use the defrost??? (If you ever have???) Because I NEVER run my AC thats what I have windows for, it bogs the car down WAY too much, Im sure you've noticed... Did you feel any gain in HP with it off??? (Im guessing not because its probably only 2 or 3 if any at all) Maybe a stupid question but Im looking for anything...

I put my belt on just my a/c after having no power steering or a/c for a week so I forgot what my car was like before I just ran p/s belt. Im sure its good for a whoping 2 hp.

Well since my belt came completely off I've noticed LITTLE to no change under all RPMs. The acceleration is a little smoother and that's about it. Maybe if you were going for all out DRAG car and needed to lose every ounce of weight you could, then I'd see the benefit to removing the compressor and all, but I'm putting my belt back on. NOTE: I never use the A/C and I still want it, just in case I have a hot chick in the car and she doesn't want her hair thrown all over the place, ehee.
I'm gonna wait 'til I need my T-belt to install the AFX (I'm @ 48K)

If you ps belt has never come off you haven't been driving hard enough. Mine has came off severeal times but not lately. maybe due to the underdrive pulley and struts that dont knock my car all over the place on bumpy curves(when it usually comes off).I too have driven for as long as I've needed to before bothering to fix it. Only problem is the thing is too damn hard to turn without power steering. Didn't notice any power gain either

Heh heh. A similar thing happened to me. I had been stuck behind a Buick for ten miles on a winding mountain road when I turned the corner and saw a short stretch of straight road. I popped into 2nd and was zipping by it when I lost power steer. It was pretty disconcerting, having less than two hundred yards on a steep incline to pass them. But I pulled it off and made it back home safely.

Well I put the belt back on this morning and I lost it again while I was testing it out again, now the belt is ripped up. I tried Kragen for a new belt, they need to order it, I'm gonna try Pepboys, I hope I don't have to go to Satan.

I've ran into the same problem. And still run into it now and then........ either your tensioner pulley or pulley bearings are bad. Or you are not putting the correct tension on the belts. You need to put em a bit tighter that what it says in the manual, since you are driving harder. Its kinda tricky though. If you are still not tensioning it enough, the belt will slip and shread again. Or if you are doing it too much, all or part of the belt will rip, and get pulled into the pulleys and shread as well. So it can be hard to diagnose whether you are over- or undertightening em. If worse comes to worst, bring it to Satan and have them do it. That way if it happens again THE WORK will be under warranty so you wont have to pay the next time.

hey, I ripped the crap outta my belt when I tried power shifting my car at the track...after that, I've found out that the tensioner pulley is kinda wobbly. so I took an aluminum washer and put it in between the pulley and the bolt and the problem is solved, my tensioner pulley doesnt wobbles as much...any of you guys had similar experience??
