you said enough. you are looking at an rs but you want a gst? Buy a gst then. You can get a GST or GSX for not much more than an RS or GS now. Sometimes cheaper. Look for the car you really want instead of paying $5k to make an RS into a GST. Find a GST.

Your best bet is to get the RS and spend $2500 on a turbo kit. That way, over time, youll save on insurance more than you paid for the turbo. And youd be faster than a gst.... I think. And you wouldnt have a used turbo engine.

I got banned for being a constant tard.

damn, at least someone on this board finally agrees with me. If you want a 4g63 then buy the car that already has the motor in it. I dont see the point of swapping motors when you can already buy a stock car of the exact same model with the engine you want.

I could see turboing or swapping if you already had a non turbo. But why buy a non turbo when you are already set on turbo? In all honesty, I am kinda scared to turbo mine now with reliability problems all or most of the turbo'd cars are having it seems. I wanted to sell and get a 99 GSX. Insurance isn't THAT bad on turbo if you are 19+ and have a pretty clean record. I could have had a 99 GSX for 914 a year fully covered. when I was 19. I am now 20, and it would probably be a little cheaper. Turbo the celica if you wanna turbo a non turbo car. It revs higher and would be pretty sick.

you could build the celica on a lower compression and turbo it for the same price, and I'd be willing to bet CHEAPER than what you could buy an RS and swap a 4G63 into it for.
The 4G63 is GST and GSX. The only difference is the tranny. The GSX is AWD. (you probably knew, but there it is)

>ok well they dont have a supercharger out for the celica yet

There was a celica meet this weekend in cali, and we saw a supercharger on a new celica, and he was nos'd. There were also 2 definatly, and possibly more with Turbo kits, that had pre-bent intake pipes... I think them cars are pretty sweet... Only messed up cause the intake manifold is in the front!

Hmmmm.....You want a project car huh? If you are set on a turbo eclipse, I would buy the rs and turbo that (HRC/STAR). Then upgrade the internals. Just my .02!
PS: All I have to say is WOW! I pay $75 a month for full coverage on my 99! But I'm 27 with a perfect driving record (knock on wood)!

If you want a project car go 1G awd. A 1g AWD eclipse or talon can be had VERY cheaply and they are made to be some of the fastest cars on the road and are dont take an arm and a leg to pay for modding. This is the route I will go for my project car (may get a new car and a bike or may get a new car and a gsx...not sure). Or take ur RS you can buy, build the bottom and top ends for a grand a piece or so if you do the work, get some fuel mods, and boost the hell out of it.

P.S. You could always drop your compression on your engine then boost quite a bit more than 6 PSI because you will be going internal on the RS if you decide to boost it also. I say stick with your gts and build up the bottom end a little (top is is already pretty strong on gts isnt it?) then boost that. Looks better, newer, etc..

a stock celica running 6 psi is pretty sweet for a daily driver. But if you're set on getting a project car.. then i'd have to agree with getting a 1g. The 4g63 swap on an rs isn't worth the money.

oh let me clarify, you cant swap engines with a gsx. The engines are completely opposite and it would take atleast 2 grand just to prep the engine bay to take the 4g63. the engine from a gsx is facing the oposite direction. It would cost over 5 grand to swap in the 4g63, as where a turbo kit and a built motor for the 420A would cost only 3500 or so

>the engine from a gsx is facing the oposite direction.

just to clarify, gst and gsx (also TSI and TSI AWD) have the same 4G63 engine, all completely different from the 420a which is in the rs, gs, esi.

If want a gst motor get a gst just like they all said ...swap is not worth the money at all I have done some looking on it ..... personly I got a 99rs what I going to do is all my bolt on with out nos or turbo .... yet . Hell just the bolt on alone will make you fast I only got a few things done and when I race a stock gst I could prb spit n the ass end of the car if I tryed , and when you turbo a on turbo car you will have prbs with it from what I have looked up with the 420a its not good to turbo them they say if any thing nos is better .. duno how but thats what I have been told from guys that work on eclipes for a liveing . What I would do is get the basic bolt ons like header/cat back 2.5 and cold air intake then build your in said up like pistons and stuff then go nos .. just don't go finger happy and you should be ok

I don't want to start an argument here, but putting the turbo on a NA car is not as bad as it's being made out to be here. There are people with problems. Most of them have gone past the recommended boost levels. Some haven't, but I'd say 90% of us that stay at 8psi or lower are still OK. I've had my kit for 40K miles now without any turbo caused problems whatsoever. If there's not a problem, there's nothing to post about. Therefore, most people who get their kits and have no problems are overlooked. With all the knowledge base here and the experience so many people have with turboing the 420a, I'd say it's a fairly safe mod. Just don't get too greedy with the boost and keep in mind, it's just my opinion. There's really no #'s to back it up. Just what I've seen over the past 4 years.
