i'm at a cross roads right now with my car.

(should i turbo, even though i don't race, or what).

anyway my question regards high compression pistons. what are the good and bad things about (all motor no turbo). what type of gains in hp and torque? i know that the new celica is fast because it is light and with high comprsson pistons 10:1 i think. anyway, i've been searching in google and NO ONE sells high compression pistons for eclipses. highest is 9:1 (which is stock for an nt). i went to je pistons' website and they are at long beach (two hour drive) and the site says if they "don't have it they'll build it."

i am figuering if i go with this ruote, it might be able to be more reliable (i'm moving away for college on my own in the fall) and slightly cheaper.

whats any one's thought?

i've also notice no one on 2gnt has high compression pistons.

2004 350z base, Nismo CAI, pioneer avic-n1 (dvd, cd, navi)



Old Car:
1998 GS with hrc stage 2, HID 6000k conversion kit, AEM UEGO wideband, sfmu, ml, prokits, Greddy warning gauges: egt, boost gauge, and oil pressure, apexi tt, haydans tranny cooler, costum dp, groundwires, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler
Boostin since Aug 03.

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

alrighty this will be a long post oh boy,

n/a vers turbo,


N/a no turbo lag no spool time, fast reving, easier to tune, no big fuel pressure problems, cheaper to build, more expensive to get same power as the turbo option

n/a downfalls, not many mods, expensive to get *alot* of power
have to be a good tuenr to get that power out of the car, needs to be lighter to compensate less power,

turbo, expensive to start but cheap to make go real fast, challenging to tune properly and keep motor safe compared ot an n/a setup,

there are hi comp pistons somone is running a 10.5:1 turbo car around here i forget his name

there are 3 flavors of pistons u can buy, 8.6:1 , je has 8.8:1 pistons for us ther are 10.5:1 pistons and 12.5:1 pistons all n the forged flavor,

the problems with hi comp n/a moors and high boost motors is with that much power being rammed in u need higher octane fuel,
meaning posssibly at or above 12.5:1 u will hit detonation and neeed fuel additives or higher octane fuel to keep the motor from pinging it self to death,

if u want pistons and motor work check out, Blackdogmotorsports.com hes the 420a all motor king, he can set u up witha 2.2 motor (or bored out 2.0) not to much more expensive then a normal motor and he can make your cylinder head look like a mirror with his port jobs,

also there is raceeng.com for pistons and rods, they have good service and nice prices,

howell, ARD phatridz.com, forwardmotion modernperformance, lots of places to get parts for our motors most are unknown because i have mentioned the top neon motor builders.

if u want a beefy n/a motor i know somone whose running around 250whp on his n/a 2.4

if u did a 2.4 swap and then bored it out to a 2.6 knifeedged the crank light flywheel port the head hi comp pistons new ignitions and the normal bolt ons, ud be making some nice power some where in hte realm of 250whp properly tuned..

with the 2.0 it is hard to get alot of power out of it without increasing displacment.

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.

Ive calculated it out, and the gains with normal bolt ons and high compression pistons are minimal. 4% for every point of compression added... so 12.5 compression pistons will yield 157.5 hp. Numbers will vary of course... so don't take this too literaly. Now take bolt ons, you MIGHT get another 20hp. Your still only at 177.5 CRANK hp. Take away your 20 percent and that leaves you in the 140-150 range. Not enough IMO for the costs assiciated with it. Another option would be to get some more aggressive cams, but then you are sacrificing driveability and that was the whole point of going this route. If I am spending 2500 on a motor I am buying a turbo kit.

If you are looking for a relatively safe, cost effective option then look at nitrous kits. 500 bucks later and you have more power than those pistons will give you. For the cost of that rebuild you could also beef up the fuel and ignition systems and run a bigger shot.

157hp at the wheels. thats pretty good imo. shit gst make 168 at the wheels (read it in the achives).

i am thinking final drive mod ($100), high compression pistons ($400), and bore at .20 ($120).

i dont know. i guess im just frustrated buy this turbo kit that's sitting in my living room.

You could get 200 HP to the wheels with a 12.5:1 stroker bottom end, and drag cams and the right tuning.

And since there are drag cams involved, read the post I put up within the last week with all the other things you'll need for the best results with drag cams.

can you guys give me more info on this.

with the 12:5:1 or 10:1 pistons, with the bore at .20', and 91 octane is that all i do to stave off detonation?

i just want a system that is simpler than a turbo. i know that this route might not have the most hp, but i think i could be happy with this route. i'll keep the turbo in the closet though hehe for a later time, like 3 years.

if u want more power and reliable, do a 2.4 swap bore it to 2.6, throw in some t2 rods and weisco 10.5:1 mill the head a tad to bring u to 11:1 that is a tad bit safer then 12.5:1

run some 22 or 24 crane cams in the motor, get a udp, cai, fu'' 3" exhuast a new ignition, afc to richen it up to good running specs, port head, os valves, bigger tb ported intake manifolds, etc....

that would get u above 200whp id assume, tuned correctly and all mods done the right way

Huh? We sell JE 10.5 and 12.5 compression pistons for the 420A.

WE have the JE's because they are a part built for us, and it is not in their catalog.
