#4049, "Compression Ratio and Nitrous?(Any nitrous users?)"

Hello all! this is my first post but i have been reading this board for a week or so now. i have a 1997 RS and i have all the usual bolt-ons(I/H/E/Pulley) and also a nitrous express nitrous system. In a month or so i will be rebuilding my engine so i can use a bigger shot of nitrous. im running a 50-shot and i want to do a 100-shot or so. i want to use the new Eagle Rods from Howell Automotive, but i cant decide on pistons. i would like to get a higher compression ratio piston, like a 10.6:1 or 11:1. Would this be ok to use with nitrous? if not what is the highest ratio i should go with? i have a Walbro 255 pump if that helps any. Does anyone besides JE make pistons for our cars? i know some places can custom make them, id like to use Ross Pistons,,anyone know what dimensions/specs i would need to give them to make me a set?(id like to not have to bore the block over) last question...and this is probably for the nitrous section.... when i go up to the 100 shot after i build the engine, would i be better off selling my standard wet kit and going with a NX direct port kit? thanks very much for any advice or help.

but Stan2GNT was on 10.6:1 on 75 shot with stock rods and aftermarket pistons. The pistons are just about all the same. You can get Weisco Ross Arias or JE. 100shot should be doable but I'm no expert in the subject of squeezing. You can get factory compression aftermarket pistons (9.6:1) and either get a thinner headgasket(to raise compression) or just higher compression pistons

Ross pistons too. You wouldn't have to give them any demensions since I sent a piston in and had custom ones made yrs ago (email me for more info stan2va@aol.com). The only thing they did to the stock demensions were raise the dome .020" and make the valve relief larger. They hold up nicely. Just specify .004" piston to bore clearance. I went .005" and its a little noisy but its been nearly 40K miles and a yr in a half with nitrous, then turbo and abuse (hitting the rev limiter turbo/nos, redline shifts, too much speeding ect) and no problems yet. I didn't bore either. My compression was/is 10.6 but from milling the head. The pistons as made were only about 9.8 comprssion. That way if you ever need to raise compresion just swap on a $300 cyl head. I wouldn't use 100hp shot without any retard. thats kinda pushing it. I ran 70hp shot no retard.

who installed your pistons 'cause I know stock bore aftermarket pistons will fit but you are saying you didn't do ANY honing or boring to rid the cylinders heat glaze of the factory pistons/rings. I know it can be done safely but I was wondering about any small side effects like compression(which seems to have provided not problems) and oil blow by. Were you going through a little axtra oil by about 2500-3500(if that's when you changed it) or NO oil loss. I'm curious 'cause I was thinking of pulling my head and dropping the pan just to swap in some 12.5:1 Weisco pistons and retarding timing a bit on my MSD and/or ITC (I will have to because 14.5:1 compression can't be saf emoji)

Thanx

What kinda pistons do you have in there now? What 1/4 mile times are you running NA skrilla? And what do you think your HP to the wheels is? Thanks

I'm running stock pistons of 9.6:1 with a nasty mill and .022" headgasket on stock head bolts. I 'm about 11.4-11.6:1 static compression. I don't know how crazy these regrinds I'm running are so actual(called dynamic) compression is somewhere around there. As far as speed I'm running G-tech numbers from 6.5-6.8:1. I've gotten some good 1/4miles on gtech I think are respectable (enough to stomp this I/E 95 GS-R) but I'm not sure of the validity at that high a speed on the G-tech so I'm only going to post the 0-60.

I didn't say they didn't do any honing. No boring. I dont know what the hell they did but I do know the cyl walls looked fresh and new and I know the pistons are facory bore with .005" clearance. Now I dont know if the walls were just in that good shape to begin with or they honed. I dont even care cause its been trouble free for some time.
