#40280, "Right Track?"

My cousin has a 1996 Eclipse GS with a blown motor and he's looking to make a beast out of it. I'm a little more in "tune" with cars than he is so I told him I'd help him out. Unfortunately, I dont know a whole heck of a lot about tuning Eclipses.

Heres where I figure he should start:

The DSM is a great motor.. so start by getting another 4G63 (is that right?) then upgrade the turbo, front mount intercooler, exhaust, bigger injectors, super afc then start getting into the block mods (rods, pistons etc..)According to my friends at XS engineering that should be getting with those mods about 280 whp on premium fuel, i'd like to take it beyond that.

Edit* I just read a little more and the 420a was mentioned as being a stronger motor. I cant seem to find what the difference between the 4g63 and the 420a is? Sorry for the newbie questioning, I checked out the newbie section and theres a ton of technical info there....but i didnt find quite what i was looking for.

Money is not really an object here so any help would be greatly appreciated.. what else should we get into as far as bolt ons, and engine work?

Ok money is no object.

First get a howell automotive bottom endkit with 8.8 JE pistons. Then get the howell automotive head kit. Now order a HRC stage IV kit. Before you put everything back together port and polish the crap out of it.

Alright guys that is all I have time for. Add on to it from here.

Generally I say stick with the motor, or at least motor make when doing an upgrade. If it's a 420A stay with 420A (2.0L or 2.4L) If it's a 4G63 stay with that, anything else is too much rewiring.

One who boasts of his own ability has no merit.
One who parades his own success will not endure.

Since the motor is dead and money is no concern, how about starting with a bit extra motor and swapping in the 2.4L 420a out of a Cloud Car or a Caravan. It is the same motor, essentially, but with 22% more displacement. The bore is the same, so the entire addition of displacement goes towards torque.
