i was looking to pick up some cams after xmas.. probably crower.. but im open to options.. i just want to still be able to idle.. i dont care if its rough a lil.... any recomendations?

Crowers are nice. I have also heard good things about crane cams from some of the neon guys and a few here on the board.

Depends on how much you want to spend.


If you just want to stick some cams in and be done, you will probably be best with a street grind. They don't really make much power over stock and with no other mods, they'll work fine.


If you want some actual power that you will notice from the cams, get the drag grind, so for these to run at there best, you will also need a higher compression ratio to take advantage of the air coming in and out now. If you don't already have the basic supporting mods like bigger TB, ported intake manifold, header, exhaust, and intake then you will need them or you'll never have enough air coming in for those cams. You will also have to have cam gears to be able to adjust the cams for the best power. You will also need the PT Rockers and Lifters that can take the abuse of higher lift cams since our stock rockers are known to break with high rpm abuse.



Some people say you must port the head, others say ours flows enough. Either way this is just getting started on headwork and cams. My Crower Stage 2's are nice. I would suggest some form of fuel modification (S-AFC). To help tune in the cams or deal with any idle problems. Make sure your exhaust is up to the task of the cams.

If you go with a drag grind or stage 3's from crower you will need to upgrade the valvetrain, valve springs(the lift on the cams is too high for stock ones), lifter and rockers.

Also with drag grind cams, you should get a set of titanium retainers to go with the valve springs.
