ater my car has been sitting out in the cold for a long time, i go and start it up and its fine. however, once the car gets up close to normal operating temp i start hearing a noise. i figured out that its the cam gears hitting the t-belt cover. (pushed on it one way and it got louder, pushed the other and it stopped) it does this for a few minutes before eventually stopping. what the hell can i do to fix it and why is this happeneing?

there was a post about this a while back. but i think it should start to stop making noise once the engine warms up. it cause the plastic contracts while cold and expands when it warms up.

i have the same problem. it sounds like crap. whenever i hear it (pretty rare) i just pull over, pop the hood, and squeeze the cover a little and try to move it around a little. it usually sloves the problem for a few days.

after i do the rebuild, i'm just gonna take the dam thing off.

hmmm...guess this is pretty common. ive been having the EXACT same problem, i figured that the cam gears are a lot stronger than the plastic, so it should be fine. doesnt sound good until the car warms up though. i was thinking of using a dremel to cut off the plastic around the brackets but somthing tells me ill be replacing a timing belt if i try that.

Have any of you guys cut your timing belt covers around the cam gears by any chance?

I cut mine off (so i can adjust my aem cam gears without trouble) and after that the cam gears would hit the only part of the timing belt cover that was left. It was because the part i cut out had a plastic spacer that pushed against the cylinder head that kept the timing belt covers in proper clearance from the timing belt mechanism. Check that out and see if its your problem.

If it is, i just end up cutting out the little piece left that kept touching the cam gears bit i guess someone could also make a spacer between the cover and the cyl head like the stock one as well...

I had the same fu@*ing problem! Just remove the little cover that has the little bolt in it. When removed, it'll be just like a little window for the cam gears/timing belt. After that small piece is removed, everything should be OK.
