I know there has been lots of 2nd and 3rd hand posts and info about the 97 mxt ECU's. Can we get some hard data from you on this product for example:
what ALL has been changed?
what is the rev limit?
how much advance?
all the hard info we need to make an educated choice. please give us some info.
thanks Gary

I tested the ECU, so all the information i have IS hard info. The rev limit is 8200RPM. Max timing is 27* at WOT. EGR and after-cat O2 checking is removed. The partial throttle fuel trims are backed down a little. it made 9wHP after a max of 20 minutes of run time on a car with nothing more than a CAI and a welded on N1 muffler.

You'll never get numbers, graphs, comparisons of EXACTLY what was changed because the modification is proprietary property of Howell Automotive.

what was timing at WOT before the new ecu was installed?

Was it 17 degrees advance and with the new ecu it was 27 degrees advance on the nearly stock vehicle.

I just need to know how much spark advance a stock 97 2gnt has at WOT in 3rd/4th gear at 7000rpm.

Disregard, I finally found some info in the archives. It did not pull up the first time....thanks anyway.

Looks like approx. 20 degrees advance on 2gnt(WOT/3rd gear/max rpm).

8200 RPM?? I thought i read somewhere that it was impossible for our engine due to fuel to pass 7800rpm??? Like, if we got the aftermarket ignition, we couldnt go past 7800.

with a well built motor and head you can rev that high.

Oh, and Gary. Do you have plans on making a set-up for auto 2gnts?

I think the spark cut was at 7800... I didn't think that the cars were really able to rev to 8200, but I knew that thats where they put the limiter in the ecu. Does it acctually rev to 8200 Dino?

Are you talking about spark cut on the stock ECU? Wait...Yeah, fuel cut hits at 7000 and spark at 7800. I think that sounds right, unless my car's fucked up. Oh wait, i'm sure fuel cut is at 7001. Just to say i've seen redline once in my life. That's about the gayest shit for our engines....I get to ride along in my friend's 1g turbo and watch him rev near 8 grand.

you guys do realize that both the spark cut AND fuel cut are controlled by the ECU. so if the new rev limiter is at 8200rpm then that's where it's at, be happy, and quit your bitchen/questioning. emoji

ECU controls rev limit, but the TCU controls shift point. So with an auto you need to reprogram the TCU as well or it won't matter.

If that was true than I would be able to run the AFX ecu except I wouldn't have a rev limiter. It would just shift like it always does at 6500.

My car is a 96. only 95's had a seperate transmission controler. Which means Gary's mad scientistes would have to do a little more work with my ecu.

**sniff sniff** I'm still waiting for my AFX ECU emoji

i think its a few hundred dollars. but from what i've heard, its well worth it. 10 whp. a cai is like 150 and it doesn't put down near that much.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.
