chop up my car, have to repaint, have to work out any problems that arise, pay 900 for the front, then 1000 for the install.... just to knock off 1.5 seconds and still be a 15 second car?

i think not

you are looking at well over $2400 to be a 15 second car?

or sell your car take that money plus the 2500+ you would spend on the swap and get an AWD turbo hmmmm hard choice. I don't care if the clip is free and the mechanic will swap if you just pay for the extra parts you will need it is not worth it period. I am not sure if I can get any more blunt then that.

No chopping, no painting, hes going to custom make the motor mounts to fit the 420a motor mounts, the ecu and master wiring harness comes with the deal, besides hes the tech at the local mitsu dealer, not to mention the top dog mechanic, he knows exactly what hes in for, he has his own busniess on the side and does all the honda swaps, he even said its not gonna be as easy but the main concern is the motor mounts if i have all the parts, and he said it the same as buyin one used, but atleast this way i get to keep all the shit i got on my car without starting over, i live 10 min from extremem motorsports, even they said if i can get the front clip for that cheap its deff worth it, and i dont want a awd, ther not all led up to b, esspecially the second gen AWD's and besideds i wouldnt keep the t25 on there, id go with a big 16g ,trust me i know what i am doin and obvously so does he , he knows ho wmuch diff the cars are, y do u guys gotta flame me, were all comin from the same place , it be nice to have encouragment from some of u!, we have so much arguing on this board, all my other buddys bpards with thier cars never have this much drama oon theres!

not being a dick or nothing, but there guys on this board that do 14.1s at 8-10 psi's, and the last time i checked, strauss was doin 13.5s at 15 psi's. so a 14.7 at 15psi's is nothing special. btw, good luck, cuz youll need it, and make sure you have a 2nd car, cuz youll need that 2. and dont forget the gauge cluster switch out, and the complete customization of drivetrain components, if im not mistaken, so have fun!! and btw when you get that beast back in a couple months, i have a bigg 16g ill sell ya emoji

You dont chop off the front of the car , you transfer parts over from one clip to another. I am doing this right now to a buddy's 240, turning it into an S13. And if you were think of rewelding the front end to your car, your crazy. You will never be able to get the car to drive strait. The most logical thing to do would be to transfer parts, even then you are still dealing with the problem of motor mount positioning. Oh and if you can get this all done for 2k, i would do it, but some how i dont think you can.

<EDIT> i would get it done dood, but get a 4g63 with low miles, and a turbo. To me, it sounds like a risky deal, but with some good rewards

the gst and gs rs motor mount are the same for the most par they all fit in the same places my prothane kit fits all years ad models of eclipse and talons(motor mount replacement kit and insert kit)

the rest shouldn't be to bad u should be able to bolt up the gst axles since the usupension is the same for the most part maybe minor changes but you'll have to swap engine harnesses and the guage cluster its a chore but if your not alone and people know what they are doing it can be done a guy i know locally did something similar swapped a totally different motor still toyota but had to swap entire wire harness and ecu guage clster etc wasn't "that" hard,

if u have the tools an the know how anyone *can* do it, if u get a slammin deal on the aprts and have the whole front clip available go for it mang...

people told me i was nutz about a 2.4 from a family car fittting in my talon well ya know what im gonn have it finished one of these days

go for it dude... but dont say we didn't warn u on the trouble cost and such =) please do rent a digi camera or sumtin document the stuff and take many many pictures and list what u changed ona note pad and write it out for people...

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

Good luck in your ventures, I have just one question though....the front clip your getting.....if it's coming out of the boneyard, how are you gonna get the chance to check it out and make sure that on some off chance it may already be a victim of crankwalk???? Just something you might want to think of......

Dont forget that the front wheel hubs are different, shift cables are different, radiator support are different, and also the entire engine and dash harness. Not worth it, i kind see them making that 4g63 engine mount work with that car that has the sttrut housing built for the 420a mount. You will end up spending at least 3500 to complete it, might as well get a turbo kit and internals.

I dont know why everyone is knocking this guy about his 4G63 swap...I do agree that 2000 is cheap, but if he can get it for that price id do it...Well, id sell my car and buy a factory turbo instead of keeping my GS. People can knock the 4g63 all day about its crankwalk etc etc, but the fact still remains that a 420A simply isnt nearly as reliable a motor. I am not saying that the 420A is garbage, but it isnt nearly as built as the 4G63.... I say, install the 4G63.

Well it all sounds good to me if that's what you want to do to your car. But "he thinks he can get it done in under a week"???? No flipping way. Master mecanic or not, someone who says they can do a custom swap in under a week is either an idiot or on some serious hallucinogens. (Excluding Dino... I'd probably believe him... emoji)

hey man, sorry so many people have ridiculed you instead of givin you constructive critism. ALot like dsmtuners.com

I say good luck and keep us informed. Im sure they were all told "wtf??" when turboing a 420a first came out. Well that turned out good now didnt it. Take pictures for us, and also like the guy above said make sure the engine youre getting isnt a crankwalk engine to begin with.

I got banned for being a constant tard.

Hey if Extreme Motorsports says it can be done and it's worth it, then I give you the thumbs up. But I have to warn you... Extreme really doesn't know THAT much about 420a's. I lived near there too (beltsville) and once tried to buy spark plugs from them... they gave me 4g63 plugs (one range colder) and looked really confused when I said they weren't the right ones for a GS... they ended up telling me that they didn't have any plugs for a GS in stock.. so i just gave up and never went back.

The thing that makes a 4g63 swap in a non turbo eclipse so iffy is the fact that the cars are really set up differently. Different engines, different ecu's and harnesses, etc etc. it's not like a 240sx or mr2 where the cars are pretty much the same and even then, it's pretty difficult and expensive.

I do wish you good luck though, and keep us informed of your progress!

>I dont know why everyone is knocking this guy about his 4G63 >swap...I do agree that 2000 is cheap, but if he can get >it for that price id do it...Well, id sell my car and buy a factory turbo instead of keeping my GS. People can knock the >4g63 all day about >its crankwalk etc etc, but the fact still remains that a 420A simply isnt nearly as reliable a motor. I >am not saying that the 420A is garbage, but it isnt nearly as built as the 4G63.... I say, install the 4g63

I'm not going to get angry about this statement on the board but I don't agree with most of it. I do totally disagree with the fact that the 4g63 is more reliable, that sir is absolute shit. That said here is my reply. I bought a star stage 2 kit used for $1800. It included the bb option and the e-trim upgrade. So for less money than it's going to cost you (just in your estimate) i got a much better and more capable turbo. I'm not knocking you for wanting to do this but it is going to cost you some more than you think. The front clip will not come with a guage cluster, the engine may already need a rebuild, it's going to ba alot of work. And the motor mount inserts are the same because the motor mounts are all the same size and type, however they do not bolt up in the same place or way. It's going to be a lot more work than it's worth IMO. Do what you wish but I doubt you will have in the end what you wanted and wil always wish you had gone another way. (it's all my opinion but you can get twice the performance for the same price) Plus if you have high horsepower levels in mind then the 4g63 will need a rebuild too. plus if you just want a turbo in the car and you run the reccomended boost levels on either kit out there it will be just as reliable as a 4g63 providing you do not make any big mistakes in tuning.

Some other small minor details I have been thinking of on this..besides for the gauge cluster your also gonna need the fuel pump too. I doubt if our stocker will be able to keep up without being upgraded. The car your getting the front clip from....where and how was it damaged? How long has it been sitting there? Those are very important things to consider. If it has been sitting for a long period of time there is a good chance you will need to do a complete overhaul on it to replace seals that might be cracked, broken or dry-rotted. And in general it would be wise to do a complete k=job on it anyways as you don;t know how good the previous owner took care of it. Just some random thoughts for you to factor into the equation...not trying to discourage you, it's your car and money, but you have to look at the TOTAL package when doing something like this. Once again I wish you the best of luck in your quest and hope all goes well, and that you don;t end up getting screwed in the end....

That's definately a cheap swap, but I don't think that it's worth it. You could spend $400 on a nitrous kit and be faster than a stock 4g63. Maybe you should visit HRC's website and read up on all the sections on the 420a. I considered the swap just as u are, but after comparing times of HAHN turboed 420's and 4g63's with normal upgrades, I went with the a STAGE II kit. I've now upgraded and the power is definately there. If you still have my number, give me a call, or email me udluze2@aol. Id be more than happy to take you for a ride with 15lbs. I think that will make your decision for you.

If you want to do the swap, then by all means, go ahead. I just don't think that it's THAT unique of a swap. I mean, just get a gst. People are gonna think that it's a GST anyways. Aside from the engine, tranny, gauge cluster, and other stuff, the two cars aren't that different. If you want something unique, drop a v6 in yer car or sumthin' that wasn't available in the 2g's. To me, a 2g eclipse with a v6(maybe the 3000gt motor), would be a helluva lot more unique than a 2g with an engine in it that is normally available.

18 focal g7's
custom exhaust
weapon r coilovers
stage 1 clutchmasters
shaved stuff:
antennae
rear wiper and squirter
spoiler
reverse lights

oh yeah...it's a 99 gs

Do the swap!!! If the mechanic knows what hes in for and is garanteed that it will only cost you for 2000 go for it, but have extra money just incase... People that go out and buy the star or hrc kit for the 420a will eventually spend the same price... IE problems, blown engine, rebuild... ETC... either way if you have the 420a and you want power gotta show the fetty holmes...

I support the swap and if i would go back and pick my car it would be the 4g63!!! crankwalk crankwalk cant believe people still briing that up.. that shouldnt change your mind about gettin it

Well crankwalk is real and that may be why it's in the yard. Your going to have to mess with all kinds of lines and hoses as well. Just take a real look into it. plus I bet most of what you have on your car will switch over to a gst if you just bought one of those. It just doesn't make much sence to me.

I think you should do it. He obviously is the first person around here to know the difficulty of the project and the outcome but is still willing to try it. This one will go down in the history books - a 2gnt switching to the other side!

Anyways, my itty-bitty recommendation is : take off the oil squirters on the 4g63 block. I may take a lot of heat about this one, but I am completely certain they are what lead to oil starvation on the crank and thusly crankwalk. I'm certain crankwalk will be a thing of the past with that mod.

Good luck and keep us posted!!! emoji
