Well this mod might not be new to some but it is to me.

I forgot where I read but stock Eclipse TBs never go 100% open. Some have tried to tighted up the throttle cable. You would think this would cause the TB butterfly to swing further open, but it really doesn't, instead it just improves throttle response.

Okay on to the mod:
First thing to do is check how far your TB opens under full throttle. Get a person or long extension and put in between the gas pedal and drivers seat. Make sure the pedal is pushed in all the way. Pop the hood and try to turn the TB butterfly with your hand. I have a jeep TB so my butterfly spins clockwise (standing in front of the car). I was able to spin my butter fly about 1/8th of a turn. So what this means is under full throttle my TB butterfly only opens about 87.5% open. Considering the the Jeep TB is tapered this really doesnt give you the full affect of the big bore.

If yours doesn't open all the way like mine, do this:
1-pull the ECU fuse in the fuse box marked (engine 30A)
2-release the gas pedal and get a 10mm socket and rachet
3-ubolt and remove the small black plastic peice under the gas pedal
4-check to see if the TB opens all the way with the "gas pedal restictor" removed
5-plug fuse back in (this resets the ECU to learn what full throttle is)
Mine opened all the way up (100%)after this. BE CAREFUL- the black plastic piece does keep the TB from going 100% but it also keeps the floor matts from getting stuck under or on top of the pedal. If it gets stuck on top while flooring the car you will hit the rev limiter quick! Turning the butterfly 100% might damage the TP sensor ($50). The TP sensor turns with the butterfly but I dont know how far it actually turns.

And another thing:
During normal driving there wont be any difference, but under WOT (I can feel the pedal scrubbing the floor) there is a big difference.

No that is the mod I was talking about in the beginning of my post. All thast does it increase throttle response since the cable is tigter. The thing I did today lets the cable be pulled further, therefore opening up the butterfly more.

I tried that mod that you just posted and it still didnt get my throttle to open 100%.

Good find Cordell. Glad you got that straigtened out. What year is your car? Cause, I just checked mine and it definately is getting to %100 WOT without any cable mods. Maybe there's a difference in the cable for different years. I know that the 95(mine) has a different idle port on the upper intake manifold. Maybe the throttle cable is different too?

BTW, any luck with that high rolling idle?

I have a 96 ESi, but the Jeep TB is from a 90 model jeep I think.
