I am looking to rebuild this winter my car has under 90K it was running fine and did not blow. I was talking to my dad and he recomended that i ask before ordering. I am going though howell probaly 10.5 i am going turbo but might go with 8.6. The cylenders look good. And i have not checked to see if there still round and not outta bore. I just got the head off last night. ANd i was just woundering what every one eles did. If it needs to be rebored then i will but if i do not have to i don't want to. Thanks

If you're going turbo, then use 8.x:1 pistons! Some folks have tried using high compression with a turbo and the results usually aren't satisfactory.

You must check the roundness of the cylinders. It doesn't cost very much to go ahead and have them bored out .020 and ensure they're round. I think the Howell kits come with .020 oversized pistons, I'm not sure though. I say bore them out... if they're perfectly round then just hone them yourself!

well put it this way. Boring your cylinders will insure they're perfect. Boring .02 over will only cost about 120 bucks at most and i'm pretty sure that the piston's won't cost you any more from howell.

if your going for a high performance engine then i would highly recommend boring and honing

So about that average on boring is roughly 120. Thats not to bad.

I paid $60 plus tax for boring/honing my cylinders.

8$ percylinder here, he was sayign the most u should be charged is 120, if u want to build a motor right and have it last without premature piston and ring wear always bore why cheap out on that when u have so much money in the motor? dont make sense do it right and u wont be sorry, im rebulding a motor in my drag atv cause i didn't bore it and the rings wore prematurly granted it costs me about 150$ t rebuild but still that money i could have saved....

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.
