I've been using 15W-50 for a while now, almost ever since turbo'd. The FL weather is getting colder, like in the 40's-60's now. Do you think I should go back to 10W-30 or not?!?!? Thanks

SAE 30, not 50.

SAE 30 shouldn't be used if the outside temp is going to be below 40 degrees.

I would stay with what you run right now and go SAE 30 in the summer to keep those stock bearings in check.

Mucho gracias for the quick response Kyle. Oh yeah by the way, if you look at that SCC with the 300ZX article, it said that after their break in, they used Motul 15W-50 and not the straight weight.

But one of our MAJOR and COMMON problems is bearing failure, boosted or not. I ran the SHIT out of my car, period. I spun 3 bearings and had one block blow do to an oil leak but after switching to SAE 30 instead of 10w30 I never had any bearing problems again.

IMO, SAE 30 will help to prevent bearing failure on the 420A engine but you must be careful since the oil cannot be used under 40 degrees so at that point, switch to 20w 50 or so. Also with the turbo on your car, the lower the oil weight, the more shit in the oil that can gunk up the turbo if the oil gets too hot.

so if i live in KY, with the temp in the winter ranging all the way from like 10 degrees to 40 degrees, what should i use?

i use 10w 40 year round and i live in ky what part do u live in

it is 30 degrees here right now, I use 5w-30. The lower the first number, means the thinner it will be when cold. The second number is for how well it will work when hot. 20w-50 is used in warm weather, but sucks in the cold. Our cars are supposed to use 10w-30, i use that in the summer. But I also run Castrol synthetic oil, it is a little pricey but, you can't go wrong.
