#38402, "oil leak"

ive had a constant oil leak problem for like a month now, it pretty much stays low. i know this isnt good on the car, but im a full time student and i dont really have anything else to drive. the valve cover was one spot that i found to have oil around, so i replaced it. still there is quite a bit of oil leaking from somewhere. i dont believe its the oil pan because it comes from somewhere higher up than that. any ideas? there is also oil around a thing that is shaped kind of like a themostat gasket on the right side just under the valve cover, (sorry, im new to this)what is that? what would i look for to fix that?what other things do you think could be causing the leak? thanks a ton.
Brandon

sounds to me your valve cover gasket isnt any good... the "thermostat lookin thing on the <right> side of the car could mean multiple things....

i would check your sparkplugs for oil around em, if so, get the whole vc gasket kit (2 valve cover gaskets, and spark plug gaskets)... shouldnt be more than 20bux...and be sure to get a lot of gasket sealer... i think that's why ur leakin still after replacing...

there may be a writeup on the main board, i know "corbin" had done one awhile back..

good luck... our engines are prone to spinning bearings and having major problems if we as drivers don't monitor the oil level....
and our engines are known to burn about a quart of oil for every 3000 miles..

i check my oil often, every 3-5 days, but i have other issues w/my rings that warrant more frequent checking..

good luck

the thing i was talkng about is black, and just in the shape of a thermostat gasket. there is oil around it. it has some kind of electrical connection running into it. i just want to know what that is, and if there is a gasket that needs to be replaced or something. thanks

dr. side or pass side of the block??

im thinin your talkin about the cam angle sensor on the dr. side, but idunno...

find the user named "darkone" and download the factory service manuals (there is a link on his signature on each of his posts).

it will show u exactly where to place the gasket sealer, and the torque specs for the valve cover.

u will NEED an 8mm deep socket to yank it off, and swap gaskets..

good luck
