#38237, "Interesting Topic........... NO FLAMERS PLEASE!!!"

I don't want all the flames.. this is a SERIOUS topic..
I asked this question "differently" before..

I know how much potential the 420A has, but..

Just wondering..

In the Avengers, the base comes with a 420A, right?.. right..
The Avengers, higher models came with the 6G73, right?.. I guess..

Just wondering, do they have the same motor mounts?

If so, can't it be swapped?

Can someone post pics of a 420A and a 6G73 side by side?

Thanks very much

~Tacoman

Just because a 4g63 doesnt have the same mounts doesnt mean NOTHING else will. Never assume anything(you may be right, but judging from the pictures, the block atleast sits the right way). Do some research. Figure it out. Anyways... Here's some pics.. 6g73 is also in the sebring(then again, so's the 420a).

Check this site out also. Has lots of shit about chrysler engines.

yes a turbo is in the works for the v6 engine by teamert.com the system is awesome, best quality available anywhere its not in production yet but soon

BUT the v6 avegner guys are swapping 3.5L engines from galants or something in to the avengers with NO PROBLEMS, so if your gonna do the swap, put in the 3.5L

search on asog.net message board for 3.5L or even the 3.0L there is PLENTY of info on it

and there are turbos for the 3.5 too

If i was gonna do it it would be a 3.5L turbo'd eclipse that would f'n rock

Why would you want to do this? I beat a Sebring (v6) in my Eclipse by a couple car lengths. Does the v6 have more potential? Just trying to figure shit out. Thanks.

Well, were they auto, you manual? How much have you done to your car? What's the weight difference between them and you? How restricted is that engine verses ours (how well will it respond to mods)...these are all things to think about.

Sure you may have beat one, but I've beaten things I shouldn't have just cause the jackass couldn't drive what he had.

>>>Does the v6 have more potential<<<

There's no replacement for displacement emoji If they were both equally prepped then the V-6 would put out more power simply because it's bigger. There just isn't an aftermarket right now for it. Plus it's only available in auto.

Actually..

I thought you could get it in manual too..

Remember, the 3000GT NAs had the 6G72, which is a stroked 3.0L of the 6G73 (the 2.5L). I have a friend selling me his Stealth, which has the 6G72, so I am wondering.

Off course you can turbo it, but you would really have to lower the compression. I read somewhere that they have 10.X:1 compression. Also, you can easily convert the NA 6G72 to a TT 6G72, if you are doing a rebuild..

For more info, I check out www.3si.org
And I knew about www.allpar.org or .com (one of them)..

This is pretty interesting.. I did some research, but I need some more info on this.

Yeah, it is true about when that guy said, the 4G63 and the 420A has the same body, why can't you swap them in (easily), and the same thing might apply with the Avenger/Sebring, but you never know emoji ..

I know I have to swap the transmission, there was a list someone posted, like awhile back, I can't find that post in the Archives though. It had a ton of info.

You keep saying 6G72 which is the 3.0L from the N/A Stealth. But the A/S has the 6G73 which is 2.5L and only comes in auto. Also there is no such thing as Avenger R/T as I saw up ^^^ That's the new Stratus R/T and it comes w/ a 3.0L and 5 speed.

If you can get the 2.5L.. of course you can get the 3.0L right?..

Because the 2.5L is a version of the 3.0L but with a shorter stroke..
right?..

Yeah, just like the 3G V6 Eclipse, it is coming with the SOHC 3.0L 6G72.

Best bang for the buck swap: Trade your NT in for a GS-T

Best way to make a 2GNT fast: HRC, Star, or N2O

Best way to spend lots of money: Swap in any non-420a motor

It just depends on what your goal is. OK, hoping that doesn't make me a flamer...

I don't neccessarily agree with your third statement. Sure, it may be uneconomical to swap in a 4g63 because you could just buy a gst/gsx, but a v6 swap could possiblly have benefits beyond what a 4g63 could give you. I mean, at the very least, it's a candidate for creating an all motor eclipse beast.

Yup...

Plus..
Think about this..
There would be even weight distribution..
Our gross axle weight in the front is 2227 (for a 2GNT), and a GST is 2260. About 23 more lbs. I know making it a V6 would add weight, a little bit more than a GST, but that is good, because it would force the front tires to grip more, right?, so we would get more traction.

Just an idea..

>good, because it would force the front tires to grip more,
>right?, so we would get more traction.

You're forgetting weight transfer. When you launch, the weight of the car begins to transfer to the rear. more weight up front just means more rear end squat in a FWD, and less traction. (to an extent, i am sure, but regardless, we're not talking 700HP with wheelie bars here..)

The extra torque would be nice as well, but again.. more displacement = more low end torque, and in a FWD.. that just spins tire, meaning you don't go anywhere. (which is why i get beat by RWD anythings off the line, and why 140 NA cars don't disappear in my rearview until third: traction...)

I may be wrong, but if so.. Someone prove it.

He's right, we need to convert to rear wheel drive emoji

Oh, and who ever was it that posted about the R/T up there^^^ I told you It was just off the top of my head so I was positive.

My point was there IS a manual trans for the N/T V6 motor(s).

Now, to get to the serious stuff..

Does someone have a pic of our motor mounts?
Does someone have a pic of the V6 Stratus's motor mounts?

Like if you are rebuilding or swapping, someone migh have one..

Thanks

I think there is a SC out for those engines. BUT, it looks cramped. Where would you fit a turbo or SC?

This sounds promising. Im now trying to decide whether to get rid of my car or swap in a V6. Hmmm. I have the funds to execute either plan, but i just dont know.

Exactly my point, I didn't say "best way to *waste* lots of money"... A v6 swap is probably the best way to spend 4+ grand if you have it. A RWD conversion costs about $6 grand, so it's a bit less economical.

I've got lots of detailed pictures of all the motor mounts, email me if interested.

Well that applies to track applications but what about everyday driving? I wouldn't mind more torque and more HP around town. It seems like a v6 would fit the 2gnt well being as how we are so heavy from the start. I still wouldn't give up my 5 speed for an automatic, been down that road before and it sucks emoji

Can't you get the tranny from the 3G Eclipse V6?
That should bolt-on...

Anyways, if we use the 6G73 (Avenger V6), and we use a manual trannt from a 3G Eclipse V6, should we use the 3G Eclipse ECU?

Thanks

I think it would make the most sense to use the ECU for the engine you've got, thus, if you get a 6G73 out of an Avenger, then use the 6G73 Avenger ECU. Thats just common sense.

If you were going to go to all the hassle of a V6 swap, why not just go ALL-OUT and try and pull off an AWD V6 2gnt. There was a thread a couple weeks ago about that, The1Bill seemed to know a good deal about that.

I like the idea of a V6 in the Eclipse, that extra torque to get the fatasses rolling while drivng around town sounds nice. And if someone were to pull off forced induction and spend the time, cash, and research to put AWD in it too, that'd be an insane ride and you'd get a lot of magazine coverage for it I bet.

Ok this swap has done and had some coverage from RRE (Road Race Engineering) but the only problem is it is much much much eisier to use a GSX or GS-T the motor mounts are direct swap almost for the 4G63 not for our 420A Also I believe youd need the 1990-1992 Eclipse drivetrain and a new tranny to fit the V-6 some guy at RRE has a 1997 GSX V-6 Turbo, about 600hp at the wheels and tourque to match it. Their is one MAJOR problem the intake manifold sits caddycorner to the correct position needed to turbocharge the motor (if you dont fix it the pipe giong from turbo to intake manifold would skyrocket through the hood) so the guy that did it had a custom cast manifold made they said overall he spent a good $10,000 on motor and tranny mods alone but how many 1997 eclipses do yall know of pushing 600hp and how many do you know that can do that all day long to work and back and have matching tourque? NOT TO MANY...

Whoa whoa.. wait..
There has been new ground broken!!..
Check this out at the 3G forums..
http://www.eclipseforums.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=1025472

There is a guy, VAISAYUS, is claiming that he can swap in the EVO4+ motors. He has proof, and he made measurments, and he took pictures to back his things up.

He has a 97 now, with the motor out of it, and about to swap in a 4G64(? I think thats it, not sure).. but he said that it is possible to do the 6G72 swap.

Did RRE do the swap for a 4G63(?), according to VAISAYUS, they are different motor mounts, thats why you would need to change everything..

ok, i'm resurrecting this from the dead. tacoman, where did you get on this? this relates to me exactly. You know, cutting parts of my engine bay doesn't bother me a single bit, when it comes down to it, you can't beat a 3.0l v6. v-6's were invented for a reason. because they are better duh! and if there is the slightest possibility of one fittin in my car, i'm there!

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

I've done some more furthur research on this.

The motor mounts ARE the same.
And it will fit our engine bays (considering we see 2 cars with these already).

Plus, I also see that the ASOG people are using 3.5L Montero bottom ends, and swapping it into their A/S, and getting over 200 hp NA. Interesting stuff..

There's no replacement for displacement..

Yeah, I've e-mailed RRE about this. They said that they spent way to much money doing this, and they will never do this again. They said they used alot of money fabricating the parts. They used the 6G72TT from the 3000GT VR4, which is 180* of the 6G72 that's in the A/S. It probably was harder swapping in the 6G72TT in-place of the 4G63 than swapping in the 6G72 in the 2GNT's 420A.
