How does a heater system work? I heard that it works off a vacuum line. Is this true? It is starting to get down into the 40's and 50's at night here sometimes and when I put on my heat it only is hot when the fan isnt on and the air is being blown in from outside. As soon as I turn the fan on to blow the hot air out it starts to get cold.

from what i understand about heaters they work like this: the engine coolant gets passed inside the car (you ever notice the coolant lines going inside the car?) and goes through a heater core (looks like a radiator) and (this is where i'm guesing) there is fans that blow through the heater core and by clowing on the heater core it passes hot air through the car. so i have no idea about any vaccum lines. You may need a new heater core and i'm assuming you have coolant.
