Ok this might be a little long, so I apologize. Heres what is going on. I have a 99 gs automatic and the engine will not shift. It was driving fine then the other day I was at a stop light when the service engine light came on. When I accelerated it felt like what was starting in 3rd gear in a manual , really bogged down. Then as I was getting on the freeway it wouldn't shift out of that gear so I was almost redlining her. When I turned the car off and started it again it went away for a few miles then just like before. I took it in to get the 30,000 miles service at my mechanic and he said everything looked fine, but when he hooked the computer upto my car to run the diagnostics the car would not communicate with his. He said the tranny looked fine as did everything else. He thinks its the electrical or computer system. What do you guys think and has this happened to anyone before... I am taking it to satan, but are they going to tell me my warranty is void for things like indiglos, and removed panaling.... Any input would be great.... Thanks in advance......

First off, your car is in "Limp In" mode. It does this when the TCU senses something wrong so that it won't cause anymore damage. Basically you're stuck in 2nd gear. When you turn the car off and on it resets it but after a little while it'll figure it out again and dump you back to limpin mode.
To figure out what's wrong ... you should be getting an error code. Find out what it is. 95-96 look on the 2gnt.com page to find that out. If you got a 97+ you'll need a data logger so you're out of luck unless you know someone that has one. With the error code you can figure out what's wrong if you have a tech manual. It has the error codes and descriptions in it. Then determine whether or not it's something you can fix.
Taking it SATAN. They shouldn't void you're warranty unless your mods caused it. I doubt indiglo gauges caused your tranny to fail and I doubt they will either. If they protest it just talk to the supervisor or manager. If still nothing take it to another mitsu dealer.

BTW, it's probably one of the dumb tranny sensors: input speed, output speed, range. They seem to go after a while. It happened to be all three when my tranny threw it's hissy fit.
Oh, don't drive it on the hwy while it's in this mode. I know it sucks but you've now attained a max cruising speed of 35mph. That's around 3k rpms. Try not to get it revving close to redline for too long. I doubt it's good for the tranny. It's painful driving around town at 35mph. I know, I did it for a week.
