Im almost certain I need to replace my speed sensor.
I check tallahasee mitsu but they didnt have the parts price and would email me back but never did (well at least not today )
anyways, does anyone know how much one costs new? and how hard the labor is to replace? is it something me and my dad could do or should i take it to a shop? What is all involved in replacing one?

i just got one last week from the local dodge dealer. I believe it was like $47.44, not to bad the part number is 5015380-AA I think. As for install it is easy, just one 10mm bolt holds it in. Just take off the intake and the battery and battery tray, it can be a little hard to pull the old one out cause the tranny has a vacuum to it. Just to make sure it is your speed sensor your check engine light should be on, no speedo, no tripometer, and no odometer.

thanks a lot for the info fulleclipse, a couple questions for you (or anyone else who knows)... Did the speed sensor also affect your rpm's? like did they die when coming to a sudden stop? my rpms have been dipping low since the speedo died for good.

well my rpm have been screwed for a while now, there is something wrong with my idling system and no one knows what so its hard to say. It is quit possible because the speed sensor helps to tell the compter if it should change the ISC motor to adjust for a throttle deceleration or if it should adjust for normal idle (vehicle stopped) so it is quite possible. Also if you do get a new speed sensor be sure to keep the plastic gear part that goes into the tranny because it will be reused on the new sensor. If you want to check it I figured out one way to test, which I'm not sure if it is very good for it or not, but it worked. What I did was take out the sensore and loosly put it in a hand drill and have the car in the on position, not running and then have someone sit in it and then pull the trigger on the drill slowly and spin the sensor, if it is good the speedo should move, alone with your trip and odom. If it is bad it wont do a damn thing. If you do this be carefull and don't tighten the drill down on it very tight, just hand tighten it snug enough for it to grip it to spin, which doesn't take that much. I did this with the new one too just to make sure it was in fact the problem. When I got it I had to splice in the new one because it was a different kind of connector, then I put it in the drill and sure enough spun the drill and speedo raised, then I just put it back in the tranny which can be a pain, you have to get the gear teeth to line up with the teeth on the gear in the tranny, it will just take some gentle wiggling around then it will pop in. If the speed sensor is not working it will make the car stall when driving and coming to a stop. The computer doesn't know what to do since it doesn't know what speed the vehicle is traveling so it shuts everything off and doens't adjust for the idle. If you speedo is not working and it is stalling when coming to a stop and it starts right back up its the speed sensor.
