#37623, "changed the oil and doubled up on the gasket by accident and the oil leaked out"
Hey guys i am lookin at this GST for sale, and the car only has 37,500 miles on it, but he said he did an engine rebuild. I asked him what for and he said that he changed the oil and doubled up on the gasket by accident and the oil leaked out. He said he chose to rebuild and pay $5400 for the rebuild. My question is...is what he did bad for the car in the future? Will the rebuld have fixed it? And is he bullshittin or does a rebuild cost that much. thanks

Depends on how long he ran that way. My filter gasket sticks to the car every time. I found out b/c oil was leaking very bad from the filter, but I only ran it for about 5 minutes. No damage done. Basically, he just ran his car out of oil and possibly seized the engine if he ran long enough. A complete rebuild should solve any problem I would think. $5400 sounds a little steep, but maybe someone ripped him off. Or maybe he had to buy a new block, head, etc. Who knows.
