1g is my choice.

it's lighter, cheaper, and everything else being the same/better.

If you get a 2g gsx, and you do heavy modding, you will end up swapping to a 1g head anyway. Oh yea, and crankwalking engines (about 40% chance of that). The 2g does LOOK better though.

your gonna hear a lot of opinions on this one....best thing to do id go out and drive each one and see how you like them, there isn't much difference in them really, other than looks...the stock turbo and head flow a bit better on the 1st gen, but the 2g is faster stock and does look much much better...and the whole crankwalk thing...maybe 3-4 of every 100 made ever got it....its a very rare occurence...but its all gonna be on which one you like better..

I totally disagree on this one. It's got to be a LOT more common than that. I just know way too many people that have it for CW to be that rare. It's more like 3-4 out of every 10 manuals.

1G's head and throttle body flow WAY better than the 2G. You wont have to change the 1G bypass valve either. Dan Paramore's 2G head literally hogged out the size of the ports (not grinded but cut out huge portions of the port) AND ported the head to just get the 2G head to flow mininally better than the 1G head. The 1G turbo flows more too. The only reason a 2G can run with a 1G is because it comes from the factory with more boost and the smaller turbo is better down low. Buy a $40 MBC and give back the 1G the 3lbs of boost less it has than a 2G or run both cars to there max stock turbo and fuel capabilities and a 1G will walk away from a stock 2G.

2G sure does look better though. I'll take a 2G anyway thank you

the 2g Turbos have a higher compression ratio also, by almost a full point if i remember correctly. some 1g guys rebuild with 2g pistons.

I say a stock 1G is faster because it's lighter. The 14B is capable of running 12's with the right fuel system mods. Some 2GS-X's run low 13's with the t-25. The price and vast information on the 1G's makes it my choice emoji

1g, by far.

up until (i think its april) 1992, they used the 6 bolt engine, which is almost immune to crankwalk, after that they begain using the 7 bolt engines, although crankwalk numbers a far lower for the 1gs than the 2gs (dont know why though?). almost all of the mods for the 2gs are the same for the 1gs, as they are the same basic engine (4g63). a 1g is going to cost you about 8000 less than a 2g. the 1g is lighter. the 1g has lower insurance (from what ive researched). if you think theres a lot of info floating around about the 2gnts, just wait until you get into the 4g63 world. ive been researching the 1g AWDs for about a week and i already feel confidant enough the rebuild one. go to www.dsmtuners.com and www.vfaq.com . its amazing. emoji

Id get a 95-96 Talon for like 6G's and do basic bolt-ons along w/ changing that damn smiley face front bumper. Then if you ever crankwalk just swap in a 1G motor. I dont think 1G's are ugly but its hard to go from a 2G to a 1G IMO.

I have a friend who has basically a Frankenstein motor in his 98 GSX. I'm not sure, but I think he has the head, throttle, intake manifold and block from a 1g (kick me if I sound stupid, I just don't remember what all he was telling me) The he has an aftermarket BOV, turbo kit.

I could be way wrong...but whatever he's done that bitch hauls ass!

I would get a 1G. It's smaller lighter and has a bigger turbo. A lotta things on the 1G are better than the 2G, like the head, turbo, BOV, etc... 1Gs have more topend also, the boost drops off later. 1Gs are awesome and cheap!

Ok, I was in the same position as you. Im gettin rid of the RS 99, and was gettin a 1g gsx, or a 2g gst. What i came down to is that the 1G would save you hella lotta money. And those things can be fast as hell with not too much money in mods. But like someone said above, its hard goin from a 2g to a 1g. I mean the 2g's are so damn nice, especially with that wing on the gst/gsx, and they still have speed, and are pretty easy to get large hp gains. But then you got the crankwalk issue on the 2g's, that shit is scary but, i guess im gonna take the risk. get a 1G if all you want is speed, get a 2g if you want some speed, but nice ass looks. later

pure speed and less money? 1g all the way.
good speed and good looks? 2g all the way.

Seriously, you're lookin at 4000-6000 for a 12-13 second 1g (including cost of car), and maybe 10k-20k for the same thing in a 2g gsx.
