Like the subject says is anyone done this yet or really close? My friend and i are going to do this on his talon, so far he has a complete 2.4 (from a 98 breeze) stripped down to just the block. I have been reading old posts but most of them are speculation and i wanted to know if anyone can give a definative answer on how to do this. Anyone figured out the oil pan, motor mounts, cross member and hood clearance issues. Any good links i should reading???

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.

I have a great interest in this swap(b/c I already have the 2.4 SRT internals) and don't have my car apart yet to try to fit parts and pieces. If somebody could hook me up with the motor mounts that need to be altered and which way(pics, drawings, anything that will get the point across) I have a buddy that knows CAD and the school I (live at) go to has couple of CNC machines and I'll see what the costs are to get something made up.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

It HAS been done B4. I know of ONE 2.4L 2gnt prowling the streets of Cali.

Plus-many others in the process of building a 2.4L and one currently swapping.

yup bill is very close to be done, last time I was at his house, I helped him put the 2.4 engine in the engine bay and at that time it was just sitting in the engine bay on wood and sensors were not hooked up yet and tranny wasn't bolted in but that was like 3 weeks ago

Right now all we have is the block stripped down. I will be ordering pistons (turbo cruiser) today and the bearings so we can get the block assembled. Once that is done we will pull the 2.0 block outta the car. We have a 98 2.4 what is the tensioner all about, I have read that you should swap it out for the early style tensioner, why is this? Is there a link that shows how to do this??

ill be getting pictures there are many pictures availabe on the motor and stuff at neons.org,

u have a couple options on the tensioenr u can use stock, which is crappy if u use big cams or shaved milled your head it can and porbly will fail , the solid tensioner from balckdog, as long as u can adjsut it it will never fail...

check out the 2.4 archieved and sticky posts at neons.org or instant msg me and ill tell u what parts and prices u need to make a strong 2.4 motor...

To those using our head and 2.4 SRT pistons; what is the clearence between the piston and head? Do the pistons really need to be flipped on the rods? I think I'm going to P&P and oversize valves for the future head when I get the money and spare head. I really would like to mill the head to have higher 8's:1 compression, but I guess the compression is good enough to send the lighter Neon to 14.1 1/4 mile times, so I might leave it alone.

the way the pistons are formed they need to be spun around in the bore intake vers exhaust...

with the srt4 pistons u have some room to work i wouldn't mill to much above .050 because u dont have big valve pockets on those pistons remove the center layer on the ehad gasket and mill it .050 and that should make a nice gain...

hit neons.org or bstockum.com for more pistons srt pt cruisar info bstockum is selling the weiscos and t2 rods that are good for about 500-550 hp without having problems...

eagle rods are also now available for the 2.4

I agree that the Neon boards are a great source, but they don't use our head. So of course it's much much easier for them to swap the 2.4 and use it's head. I might go with adj. cam gears, but I'd like to keep drivability as much as possible. So removing the middle section of the HG might good for a litte more comp and the stock gear marks will still line up.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

the middle section of the head gasket is .018 or 18 thousandths so like .25 in compression ratio when milling the head or decking the block u are retarding the timing if anything...

there are 2 options for the tensioner setup hydrolic and solid the hydralic has failed ona few deemed bad for milled heads and big cam, stiff springs... the solid is just that solid it dont budge... it might need adjusting after a few thousand miles or atleast a checkup.. though

ther are 3 oil pumps, 2001 pt cruisar 95-96 and 97-200 stratus the stratus pumps put your oil filter right below crank pulley the pt moves it from their...

the 97 and up need a spacer to work right.. the 95-96 does not

crane cam gears are working really well so far zero problems with fit and finish and stuff over there so that is what ima grab..

Really unknown. It w/ bolt-ons put 1st gen Neon's into the 14's. SRT goes 14.1 or close to it. I figure since the 2gnt is a tad heavier, then a little bit slower on the same type set-up. Since your basic HRC and Star kit run bigger or equal size turbo's there should be no problems in the 14's. I figure with mild headwork, SBC, and 3" exhaust, low 14's and maybe high 13's. Horsepower should be in upper 200's maybe 300 if tuning is right. Just depends on the set-up really.
