#37207, "CAI? Observation"

I've noticed that certain air intake products are claiming that their intakes are "cold air", but how can they be. I've got a '95 Grand Cherokee Limited that I found a "cold air" intake for, and all it is is a short intake that in no way gets cold air. My GS with an Iceman intake actually is getting air from underneath the car.

How can these companies even remotely consider their products "cold air" if the factory intake housings get the air from the wheel well or the front of the vehicle, which would be cooler, but their "cold air" intakes are sucking right next to the engine? Is it just some gimmick to get people to purchase their stuff, or is there an actual difference.

I would think that if you replace the OEM air filter with a K&N filter, the performance would be as good, if not better, than these so called cold air intakes.

Any thoughts?

well if it's pulling air from the front of the vehicle than it would be working as a ram air intake which would technically count as a cold air intake
