#36916, "motor mount insert make my car loud!"

I just put my inserts in and man does the car vibrate alot at high rpm's and the car sounds different now when acelerating and it resonates throught the entire car! does anyone know if there will be any large detrimental effect if I remove the rear one and just keep the front in? it made a big difference in wheel hop, but man does it cause alot of vibration
thanks

my car wasnt louder, im sure that the vibrations make u think the car is louder... i dun think the removal of the rear one will have any negative effect... i know tho, that it wont reduce wheelhop as much as having both..

either way, congrats on the install

It seems to depend on the car, how many of the mounts you replace, and how stiff the new inserts are.

One friend put all solid mounts in his FWD turbo Laser, the car is (in my opinion) unbearable at idle or around town cruising. I don't know how he stands it.

I replaces all 4 motor mounts with new ones, and i was like well since i'm doing this i might as well put some inserts in, so i did, but man it vibrates alot i mean alot! at anything below 900 rpm and i'm like shaking. I really don't like it. the thing that sucks though is that the car drives much better, shifts are more crisp, no wheel hop etc. etc. so i guess i will take out the rear tonight and see what happens. maybe i can make a compromise by doing that.
thanks

That's how I felt when I installed my inserts. I did the front and drove it for a day. Then I thought if one is good two must be a whole lot better. After I put the rear inserts in, I noticed more vibration. But handling and shifting was so much better I left them in. I can tell you one thing - drive thru's in the summer with windows down and AC off - not motor mount insert friendly. Step on the gas a little to idle at 1100, you'll be ok. Stick it out for a week and then make up your mind. my 2 cents.

i have both installed and the front one i wasnt able to see a huge difference in loud/roughness/rattles/vibrations.

i put in the rear one about a month ago and yes i noticed the steering wheel had a bit more vibration in it, but not enough that has bothered me from my daily driving or sitting in traffic or drive throughs. what i have noticed but may have nothing do do with the insert is that when i get to around 6500-7000 my engine seems much louder, and its not exhaust loud. i suppose the inserts allow that noise to travel or generate more inside the cabin of the car. but i also suppose that dending on how well balanced the engine is is how stiffer mounts can affect the comfort of the car and drivability.

I did mine just the other day. And it makes a hella vibration in the steering wheel. Say at like 2k-5k it really vibrates. I just have the front in now but will be doing the rear in spring. It is too cold here now to install it.

If you put in all 4 polyurathane motor mounts, thats why it vibrates so bad. You dont really need to put in the 2 side ones anyway, as those dont effect wheel hop at all. Take those 2 out, and you will be much happier. I have the Energy Suspension front and rear inserts, and i only notice vibration at idle. Off idle i really cant tell much at all. I thought it made the motor sound smoother IMO. Wheel hop is caused by the motor rocking back and forth when launching, so the side movement of the motor is not effecting that much at all..Just get rid of the 2 side mount inserts and you will like it.

Just ride it out, it will be annoying for now, but after a little while you wont even notice they are there. Hell, if you really want to feel some vibrations turn the AC on at idle. Also Ive noticed that after a while the vibrations just get better, the wheel hop still stops, but now it vibrates as much as it did before.

i don't know if i can take this. I do have only the front and rear ones in my car. i don't think energy makes side ones. the funny thing is that my energy mounts were black, not red. maybe they are harder or something. the car rides with more vibration at idle and above 4K. i eill drive it around till the end of the week and see what i think then.
thanks

There is no differnce in stiffness between black and red. Just the color. I got red so I could see it. That's all. The only time I have vibration is at idle - 900 RPM and below. After that it's smooth. I don't know why you would get vibration past idle. I know the solid motor mounts shake like a demon, but that's a completely different story. btw how does the car handle in between shifts when you're stepping on it? My car was nose diving between shifts, but that's almost gone away with the inserts. Just curious.

Theoretically, wouldn't the side mounts help avoid wheel hop if you were accelerating through a corner? I'm not sure, just posing the question-
