I am looking for a guage that measures the amount of oil, but all I have found is one that measure oil pressure and temperature, is there one for what I am talking about and if so can you guys point me in the right direction. Thanks

I think that the oil pressure gauge is what measures the amount of oil.

This will sound obvious... the dipstick. Why do you want to read the amount of oil while driving? It shouldn't be something that changes.

Oilpressure reads just that how much pressure the oil is being pumped through the motor at.

yep yep yep. It's the dipstick that measures the amount of oil. Thats the only surefire way to see how much oil you have.

...BUT in my experience, if you have an oil pressure gauge then you can tell when you start to get low. I don't have one on this motor, but I had a 4.2L I6 Jeep motor with one - and when the pressure started to get low I would notice lower than normal(full) readings on the pressure gauge. I really want to get an oil pressure guage for this reason. I'm terrible at keeping normal intervals inbetween maintenance on my cars. I think an oil pressure gauge would at the very least give me a heads up when my oil is low(cause I already know that I blow through the rings and my cam seals are a bit leaky). Can someone with an oil pressure gauge on the 420a back me up on this one. Do you see slight loss of pressure when the oil level is down?

You will see a drop in prerssure when the oil gets low, so it's a good sign to check the level.

In my opinion an oil pressure gauge is on eof the most inportant gauges you can have. It amazes me they don't have one stock(oh yeah most people who drive don't have a clue).

That's why I want a guage fpr my car, because I don't always have time to pop the hood and check the dipstick,especially when its raining out or in the morning on my way to school, but with a guage I might prevent an oil problem becuase it has happened to me before that I am like a quart low, so the guage is like a heads up... so that being said, is getting one a good idea and can anyone tell me whre to get on, i know that there are mechanical or electronic, which is best? An oil pressure gauge is the closest you're going to get to estimating the oil level while driving.

Even the dipstick would be wildly inaccurate while driving. Don't believe me? Take a reading with the car dead cold, then take another reading with it started, then take another reading right after driving around alot. A gastank-like sensor wouldn't do much good since the oil level in the pan rises and falls constantly.

Just check it with the dipstick like it says to in the manual.

I've always used a mechanical one. But an electrical one may be a better choice for our cars. With a mechanical one, you have to make sure not to kink the line - so routing becomes an issue. I think routing is an issue on our cars. I'd get an electrical one. I know that you can get them at pep boys. There are plenty of online stores that sell them as well.
