Well I figured I would repost since I got a question about this in another thread. I have not figured out what the problem is yet. I get a really loud rattling sound in the tranny area at idle. It goes away when I put on the AC then after a few minutes it comes back even with the AC on. It started doing this right before my first rebuild when I had the stock clutch. Then it just kept gettign worse and worse. Even with the new clutch it still got worse. So i am ruling out that it is clutch related. I think it has something to do with the tranny. When I am in third gear I can hear a whine from the tranny that i never used to hear before. And when i let off the gas and its in gear at a high rpm it sounds abnormal. I think something in my tranny is geting messed up slowly. Looks like I might be lookiong for a new tranny pretty soon here to rebuild and have as a backup for when this one goes out.

that sucks...I dunno if this is the problem with your tranny, but I had a similar sound from my tranny and it turned out to be my syncro's. I'm hearing that sound again too and one of the bolts for one of my tranny mounts fell out. My car is outta commission for a lil bit.

sounds like a bad bearing in the tranny. i'm willing to bet its the input shaft bearing too. since your not grinding going into any gears, and your only speaking of a noise, i would bet in the rebuild all you would need is new bearings.

when at idle, hold the clutch pedal down, and see if the noise still exists. if it doesn't then it is definetly related to the transaxle. if it the noise stays then i would look elsewhere for the source of the noise. let's say maybe even something simple as a a/c compressor clutch bearing noise.

It goes away when i press the clutch in.

there are like 3 or 4 bearings in ther it could be any of them really

1 o them is special in size and cost about 40$ the others can be had pretty cheap ata wholesale bearing store..

might be cheap insurance to pull out and check..

I have the same rattling sound on a stock clutch. I have had this rattling sound for about 30,000 miles. My tranny also whines like a.... well it whines alot. I will be in first getting ready to go and while driving up to about 15mph all you hear is whrrrr whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........ its insane, louder than the rest of the car. Funny thing is, its always been that way and I have had no problems. I have front and rear motor mount inserts and my car still bucks back and forth in any gear when I let on or off the gas. I sure there is a problem..... just waiting for it so really show itself.

First check to make sure none of your motor mounts are loose, the rear specifically. Next guess would be the throwout bearing.

The throw out bearing is brand new. I onyl have 1400 miles on my new clutch. I need to check out the motor mount though.

If its a chattering sound that goes away when you push the clutch in, its the throwout bearing. I had the same problem.

maybe it was bad to begin with. i had a vibration sound with mine. turned out that the clutch bolts where coming loose.

Sounds like the clutch fork is rattling. This could be a result of a bad slave cylinder or air in the system. Next time rattling occurs, pop hood and try grabbing hold of the end of the clutch fork. The slave cylinder should hold tight up against the fork.

About your gear whine, i have the same problem.How many miles do you have?
Every NT Eclipse I have ever driven has done it so it prbably isn't too big of an issue.My 3rd and fourth gears are especially loud.

Green 95 GS 5-speed
Engine--PCP cold air intake,Greddy header,Accel 8mm wires,OBX custom exhuast.

Suspension/Brakes--Sprint 2' springs, KYB Gr2's, EBC Red Stuff pads,17" Konig Traffiks (silver), 215/45/17 Yokohama AVS ES100's, 15 dollar camber kit.

I've got all of those things, sounds like loose stones being thrown around inside the transmission, loud sounds when accelerating (only in low rpm's. I also have 154k miles on my car. Just about everything is factory (minus belts, clutch which was replaced around 60k, water pump, and uh, most fluids). I'd like to know what it really is and how much it'll cost to fix.

I have 59,000 miles on the car now. Could someone explain this clutch fork thing a little better? I have never touched the clutch fluid or resevoir before nor have I done the clutch restrictor mod. I am thinking that maybe I should change and bleed my clutch fluid to see if it helps. The noise goes away when I push the clutch in or when the engine gets to 2500 rpms in any gear. However when I am on the highway doing 80 the tach reads 3500 rpms and I can hear a rattling sound that changes when I put the car in neutral or let off the gas.

Another wierd thing about my car is that the rattling sound gets noticably louder when I turn the A/C on. If you turn the A/C off the rattling sound goes down. I think it has something to do with the load the A/C puts on the engine..... but who knows. The car drives just fine.... the noises are just a little annoying.

I have a similar problem. Anyone? Mine is when I shift into 1st gear a clatter sound, and the motor sounds rough in 1st; hard to build boost. And also I have seen, when my girl drove it, the muffler shake? Also like a screech or whine when I shift all up to 4th gear. I had this problem start weeks after the clutch break in period. It's been 4 months since, I have had to dive it like that cause everywhere starts charging $400 to just open the tranny up. btw I have a SPEC stage 3. TIA.
