#36752, "possible engine related problem? fuel efficiency gone way down..."

For some reason lately, I am burning through gas like a mofo. Definitely using a lot more than I did just a few months ago. Anyone know of any common problems that could be causing this?

The car does burn through oil a lot more lately... my friend that works on my engine says it's probably from the top end being almost completely rebuilt, and the bottom end remaining stock. Something like the top end is a lot "tighter" than the bottom end and this causes wasted or burned oil. Something like that... I can't remember what he said, it was a long time ago. I probably fucked that up.

Anyway, I haven't been able to monitor my car much lately, other than the amount of gas I'm using...once I'm done with pledgeship, I will be able to go tinker with it again.

Any advice/ideas is/are appreciated.

Thanks

- ghost

I've noticed mine has gone down with the cooler wheater and my CAI. It's a two piece intake so I now put the filter up in the hot engine bay during the week, and put it back in the CAI place for the weekends.

CAI will increase gas milage because the motor has to do less work to suck air in and the air is a denser charge. The less work that the motor needs to do, the less gasoline it will consume. The only way that it won't increase milage is if you drive harder because it feels better to do so! Another thing is that the intake temperature sensor is sitting in a manifold that transmits the warmth from the engine and reads higher then the intake stream is. This would lean out the mix a bit, too... So I guess except for the driving hard part, it would increase gas milage.
