#36624, "Mopar MTX fluid only?"

During the engine rebuild this last time, i went ahead and changed my tranny fluid also. the tech at our local Mitsu dealer assured me that 75w90 gear oil is what our cars needed, and that there was no need getting the Mopar stuff. i did so, but now im having second thoughts. the Mopar stuff that was in there from the beginning held up to a lot of abuse. you think i should go pick some up and change it out again?

Definately get the Mopar stuff back in ASAP. That fluid is specifically designed for our trannys, and no other fluid is ok to use in it. If you don't change it, you will have a useless tranny.

The Mopar stuff is a special blend for our type of synchros. It's like $14 per qt at most dodge dealers and they have it in stock. You need 2.21 qts according to the dealers computer system so may as well buy 3.

I was thinking the other day since New Venture Gear (the tranny manufacturer) is a joint project between GM and Mopar and some of the Saturns use the NVG with a 4.xx final drive if we could get the same fluid though a GM dealer for cheaper or if it would still be the $14 raping charge.

I am the 2nd owner of my car, 1st owner or 1st owners mechanic used some other fluid in the tranny a few weeks before I bought the car( cause he had just put a new clutch in)... I didnt know he had done this so I drove on it for over a year before I felt the need to flush and fill the tranny.... well, i switched back over the the correct stuff, and 700 miles later the tranny blew... so that really pissed me off... if i was you, i'd try not to do the same thing..
