#36253, "I read my codes today..have a few questions"

My car has a bad hesitation problem, and i got around to reading the codes. I did the keydance and came up with a 12 and 55, the normal codes. Now, will the ecu tell me if im running lean with a code? I think i have a gas leak, i know my front main seal is blown too. Im having that fixed this week. Now i dont think my clutch is slipping, ive done the 25mph and fifth gear trick. ive replaced the coil pack, plugs(ngk), wires(ditto), fuel filter, head gasket, valve job, and a few other things. If the ecu is not showing codes from the keydance, will an obd1 computer read anything else that could be wrong with the car? Thanks for any info.

I think hesitation would be running rich, but then again when i check my engine i get "too rich" "misfire on multiple cylinders" and an emission code. my car's never run better.

I just dont know what it could be. The car is going in the shop tomorrow, so i guess i'll find out, i really just wanted to figure it out myself. Does anyone know if a shops computer will pick up different codes than what the keydance shows? Anyone else have any clues?

depends, if you take it to the dealer then they can definitely figure out the problem without lifting a finger, then charge you 200 bucks. I don't think most auto shops have anything above what we have, just more in-depth tools not related to the computer, i.e., compression testers, leakdown testers, pressurizers, etc, etc.

oh, btw, there are codes for running rich AND lean. You might check your fuel pressure if it's a possibility, go over all of your terminals and grounds and make sure they're well connected and clean, that *might* cause roughness, then reset your ECU and see if the problem clears up. Every now and then my car goes through a severe "jittering", where the entire car shudders once every few minutes, and its extremely violent. If the shuddering occurs at idle, it'll almost kill my car. I have to reset the ECU to fix the problem.

Your problem is almost identical to mine. I have had problems with a fuel leak, so im guessing that the fuel pressure is messed up. Im still not getting any codes, so i really dont know what to do about it. I have reset the ecu and the hesitation is still there. If something is wrong with the motor, a code will come up right?
