#36186, "Chassis Tranny Support"

Just wondering, can our car support a RWD tranny if needed?

Considering that GSXs and TSi AWDs have that support in the rear, do we, the two-wheel drive people have the same chassis in the rear?

Oh yeah, I have a 95 Talon ESi..

Thanks

Does a GSX or TSi AWD have different tranny from ours?

Thanks

Dave buschur had a 1g RWD with a Chevy 12 bolt rear end and a powerglide transmission. he now has a 2g RWD, but it has a tube frame (does that count?)
I think that you are talkin a buttload of modification to do something like that, but anything can be done $$$.

the transmissions are different.

Yes, the 4g63's have different trannies. Yes, the 420A and 4g63 FWD models have different subframes - the AWD rear crossmember is built to house the rear diff, while the FWD rear crossmember is not. However, i have heard that the two are interchangeable with minor modifications, if it's any help. That does not include modifications to the suspension setup in the rear, if any are needed.

Buscher had a RWD 4g63, yes, but it's not mated to a 4g63 rear diff. IIRC, it actually used a solid axle with a ford 9" rear end, with the engine straight mounted rather than transverse. From the pics i saw, it took extensive underhood modifications to mount the engine this way.
