#36118, "Stock Clutch Performance"

How well does the stock clutch perform? Im the second owner of my 99 RS but I bought it at a dealership so I dont really know what kind of life it saw. Lately when I start to let the clutch out it feels all right then promptly hesitates for a split second (rpms go up a few hundred) then stops and the car goes fine after that. I'm not noticing any slippage in any other rpm range or gear. The clutch is probably (im guessing the last owner was a cheap ass) original and has 48k miles on it. Are these symptoms of my clutch going out?

the classic clutch test is to put the tranny in 5th at about 25 mph and floor it. If it bogs, you are safe. If it revs up quick and you go nowhere, time for a new clutch.

Just for reference, I am the second owner of my 96 ESI (my GF was the 1st), the stock clutch has 99,600 miles and no signs of slippage. emoji

My clutch doesn't slip until I hit 15psi WOT. It only slips under power so the 5th gear test doesn't always work if your clutch is starting to slip. If it slips in 5th at 25mph then your clutch is basically gone.

Hehehe, depends on the driver I guess.
I own an 88 Isuzu 4x4 pup with 150,000 miles and an original clutch.
Getting a lil spongy but it gets the job done.
