Is it any good? Can it handle slicks? I am putting in a new tranny and I want to add a few things figure an lsd would be nice, but don't want to spend too much. I want it not only for 2 wheel burnouts but for lower 1/4 times as the car will see its share of the 1/4. Also how hard is it to put in I am in the middle of nowhere so I doubt I will find any help on the install.

haha cool. I cannot justify spending 1200 on a quaife (sp?) at this point when I need to do alot more to make it fully worth the money. Hey while I got this thread is this is a good setup? I am going to slowly buy parts over the next few months as cash permits. I just want to get a direction for the first few parts and only have the tranny off once.

another tranny lol $450
phantom grip $300
Fidanza flywheel $350
clutch???? whats good for moderate power $???

i have the phantom grip. its worth bucks. its not a true lsd so therefore it makes both tires spin all the time. It kicks ass having this huge cloud of smoke when your at the wet box. If you have any specific questions then pm me. also greg that ran a sub 13 sec has the phantom grip. Also check out the neon boards, they also use it.

Hmm...flywheel? I don't know what difference that'll make because i'm still a beginner when it comes to the drivetrain, but i have a Stage 1 Clutchmasters and I pushed 12psi daily for a few months with zero slippage, zero smell, excellent performance. Most people suggest the stage 4 for intense performance, so I would personally say the stage 1 CM is an excellent moderate application clutch. I might look into it, if it is as decent as people say, "like turning your RS into a GSX", i don't know if it's that decent.

I've heard good things about the phantom grip if I had the money I'd get one but no money. NE1 use it for road racing or autox? That's the main reason I want an LSD. Of course you the quaife if better but it like 4x more expensive emoji

I thought that I read in previous posts about the phantom grip that it sucks for taking turns and that it was only good for the strip. It might have been super20g who said this but im not sure as it was prolly about a year ago. Maybe I misread this so please correct me if i am wrong on this. If in fact it does perform well in all areas i will prolly get it instead of the quafie later on.

the problem with the PG as i see it is the use of the stock diff housing, which has been known to fail (spectacularly) at levels over 300wHP. The benefit of the quaife is its strength - they will take a lot more power than a stock diff. With a PG, you've got the equivalent of a LSD (it's actually a locker conversion) but without the strength required to take the levels of abuse we can dish out. it's great for a NA or lightly modded turbo car, but i wouldn't do redline launches on it when you're making 300+ wheel hp.

Well I am staying NA so if I ever make 300+ HP then I think I will be able to afford a quaife lol. HiOnPSI the flywheel I am getting is lighter then stock alowing faster revs and adds more power because of the loss in rotational weight.

remember u can grab a used neon trany and swa bell housings with your eclipse one might be cheaper tranny setup=)

do a non modualr setup use a 95 neon flywheel(even fidanza) and a non modular clutch tis much cheaper

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

My tranny is completly dead I am sure I have atleast one hole in the bell housing if not more elsewhere I am too lazy to look into it more. I will be doing the non-modular setup using a fidanza flywheel from howell automotive and probably a CM clutch just not sure on what stage yet. I will be working on it for all of winter while I slowly get money for everything. I just want to hit low 15's NA next summer.

P.S. Motofool what has to be changed for the 2.4 swap and is it a direct bolt in? What cars can I get the 2.4 block out of? Any links would be nice too. that may be a fun project for winter emoji
