Were did you guys mount your trans coolers?

I was wondering were you guys tapped your temp probe to get your trans temp.

I was wondering about tapping into the trans cooler instead of the trans fluid pan. (Of course this would be for a Trans cooler with a core not tube design)

What do you guys think?

my cooler is mounted infront of the radiator, it looks like a little FMIC (visable from the front of the car)

The temp probe on mine has a thread to put it into a "T" connector
So I bought a brass T with 2 barbs on each end for the tranny cooler hose and the other part of the T I screwed in my temp probe

Its neat to install the temp guage first then play with the location of the cooler and watch the temps drop

don't you think itwould be best to tap in before the cooler instead of after the cooler.
If you get your reading before the cooler you can see what the temp is coming from inside your tranny instead of the temp of the fluid going inside your tranny.
To me that just seems to give you a better idea of your real tranny temps. Does this make since to anyone else?

Definately^^^^.
You would want to tap in directly into to hose before the cooler, or it wouldn't give you any idea of you trans's condition.

Which line is which? The line closer to the engine or the other?

I just installed my tranny cooler today. I put it between the radiator and the A/C condinser, right in front of the engine fan. This should cool things down pretty good. I still haven't hooked up the lines yet cause I only had like 40 min to do this. I will finish tomorrow. Now I got to get those gears!!! }>

Do not put it in between the radiator and the AC radiator it will actually heat up your tranny fluid ( i tested it with the temp guage and it actually got hotter in there than stock), it picks up all the heat that the radiator is shedding, best place is infront of both of those right behind the front clip

i actually put mine behind my front clip in front of the radiator. this way, it gets the cool air from outside, and when the fan kicks in(drivers side always kicks in the most often) the fan will also draw air through it. As far as hooking up the lines, I dont remeber which was in and which was out, but you want it to run so that your tranny fluid flows through the radiator, then out to the cooler than back into the tranny.

Damn that sucks! Why do the directions say to mount it on the radiator? Those B&M bitches! Now I got to figure out how to get it off without messing up my radiator. What if I mount it in front of the A/C condinser, will I have problems with a FMIC? And what is the front clip?

No, you wont have any problems with an fmic either, there is plenty of room up there. in fact, on the ERT Turbo kit, there are new fans that actually get installed in front of the radiator and push air through instead of the pull through type. and the fmic sits in front of those.


*edit* my fault about mounting it on the radiator. it is mounted on the ac condensor on the drivers side, but the tie straps go all the way through the radiator.
