I got a FMIC from a starion. It is in great shape and the cores have been made larger. I was wondering since the piping to it enters from the top if anyone could help me or have pics of how piping is ran to it from the intake and turbo. Thanks

yep that's my car. I had a fabrication shop modify the intercooler so that the inlets and outlets all go one direction. Cost me about 100 bux, yipes more than what I bought it for. They also have 2.5" pipes but 2" is good enough. Here's a pic I recently took of the FMIC without the bumper.

Hello HadesOmega and others...

I went to your site before I bought my Starion FMIC. IT was a big help! Thanks again for sharing!

Now I am very new to the turbo thing.... I don't even have a kit yet do to all the crap I read about how people are not getting their parts for weeks and stuff like that. Hahn / Star / NER all sound like they have issues when it comes to kit delivery. So I decided to get at the FMIC First! Next will be my EGT Gauge… and maybe I will start picking up down pipes and other pluming!

Okay, now that I have it. I need to get it modified since I take it that I can't use it as is. I have notice folks making the piping bigger and changing the position of inlets and outlets.

Can you tell me what side of the FMIC is the Inlet and which is the outlet? I am a NEWBIE when it comes to this stuff... I have lots of Research ahead of me. I guess I also need to know what side is the front side?

You said you took it to a shop that can do this type of stuff.. Can you give be some Idea what to look for in a shop that can do this type of work?

I am sure there are some welding shops here in Richmond VA... but I take it they also need to know about intercoolers and stuff. Would a shop that does radiator repair work be a good place to start?

Also I read about your piping options....Can I get some stuff from JC Whitney (SP?)

Again I am new to the game... I am not in the game for Drag Racing power nor am I into this for high Boost pressures. I just need a little more power from my beastie. A low boost pressure turbo seems like it’s a good option.

If I can get way using the FMIC as is with the small piping then I can live with that... But I don’t want to lose my fog lights…. I have a 97 Front Fascia waiting to go on So I want to have my Fog lights as an option.

But I have a feeling that you guys with the bigger pipes are doing it for the health of the system.

there really isn't an "in" and "out" for intercoolers. flows the same in both directions, picking which one goes in and out all depends on how you mount it and decide to run the piping.

heh... that's what we all say before we get a turbo. sounds like you're looking for a t25 or even a t28. spool up nice and low, lots of fun for daily driving and auto-x. "all i want is 5-7 psi." then you get it, here comes an intercooler, well, might as well do 9 psi now. hey, lots of other people on the forum are running 15-18 psi and i want to do that too. ok, internal modifications, ignition, afc, injectors (maybe even corbin's insanely cool 8 injector setup), fpr, etc, yay. $$$

your welcome dude hehe my intercooler is as shiny as that one now, if you saw in the pix also if you looked at the pix the intercooler is bent up pretty bad from engine torquing. If you put an intercooler keep those brackets on the sides so you can secure it with zip ties or something. I'm managing to keep it straight right now with zip ties goin to the heater line. I also put a rubber grommet in between the bracket and the IC so it has some room for play. Intercooler still worx though hehe

So should I go to a Shop that repairs Radiators to get the FMIC mods done?

I will take that advice about keeping the side connectors!
