The ockers and Lifters should be upgraded. PT Cruiser LIfter and Rockers (I'm also looking into Black Dog motorsports, they make an improved rockers form the PT ones) Which is suppose to help the lifters stay pumped up, which with my cams would be a good idea. Out of everything these are probably the weakest part of our valvetrain.
Actually Crower makes titanium retainers. You can but a set of valve springs and retainers direct from Crower for just over $250. I've talked to Brian Crower and Crane about them and done some reassearch of my own. The difference in the Neon and Eclipse valve springs and retainers in stock trim is nothing. Dealership even lists the same part numbers. The difference is install height Neon = 1.525" Eclipse = 1.496" The was Crane made their Neon retainers they didn't fit as well as they liked. They expect to have retainers released for us around the end of this year. Crower has sold sets of their design to both Neon and Eclipse with no problems.
.040" over is just fine more than .060" over, and you start to push the stregnth of the cylinder walls.
Ceramic coating. Love them, want them. You can coat: Intake Manifold - keep your intake air cooler alowing more air to be pulled into teh motor. Exhaust Parts - good idea to keep heat in exhaust lowering engine bay temps and keeping the heat in exhaust to help exhaust gas velocity stay up. Pistons, valves and head combustion chamber - Helps prevent detonation, keeps the heat of combustion even so you don't get hot spots and warping. More efficient combustion.
You can coat others, like crank, rods, etc. It's all a game of heat management, keepo the heat where you want it and keep it away from where you don't.
Check out http:www.swaintech.com for some good coatings.
While you are building the head I would suggest cam gears to be able to tune in the future. I have personal doubts about only 3 bolts. Crane makes a 4 bolt, Unorthodox a 5, Fidanza 5 and Crower is working on them (they have used 4 bolts on others). Crower will have the timing mark right since I sent them the stock sprockets. Unorthodox should be right. AEM timing mark is slightly off. There was something about Fidanza's bolts not being strong enough but that's an easy fix.
Did that answer your questions? Or bring up more?
