One of the fellow DSM owners was telling me that the pvc tends to melt little by little and gunk up your engine. How long before this takes place? Is there high temperature resistant piping?
I knwo someone has posted about this before but the seach option did work very good.

are you talking about the valve itself or the hoses? If you are talking about the valve, just go get a new one at any autoparts store, they are less than $5 and install in about 20 seconds...


as far as the melting thing, I have never heard of that before.

PVC, not PCV. It is true that PCV piping can break down (not melt, per se), but break down and outgas into a toxic gas, but this is under fairly high heat. The intake pipe would not see temperatures like that, else your engine is on fire, and if that is true, you have more problems to worry about.

the 1 bill.. yes PVC piping (if you are making a custom intake outta standard schedule 40 PVC) will melt in an engine bay. not to the exent to actually damage anything, but you will see much 'warping' in the piping, which of course isn't a good thing. I've seen it happen many times. I used steel exhaust pipe (painted with high temp ceramic paint) to make my custom intake piping

i got buddies that make them all the time for their ford probes, because there are only really 2 kinds made for them, and the prices are really outrageous. some have used them for years without any repercussions. most likely, it is safe. if you have any questions, go to www.probetalk.com ask one of them, they are real nice guys. search for home-depot intake, there are many variations that you can use. magnaflow also sells premade mandrel bent pipes that are constructed of stainless steel. if you decide to go pvc, what you will need is a 90 degree silicone coupler,1 45 degree coupler, about 4 feet of 2.5" pvc, cut to fit of course, and your choice of filter, as well as hoseclamps. excluding the filter, it will cost less than 15 or 20 dollars. slap a K&N on there, and you are most likely under fifty dollars, i have made some of them (i use AEM) for other people, and they have had no problems, and they work great. email me at aemrs@hotmail.com if you have any questions.

I just remembered, that it'd be easier on the PVC in an eclipse engine bay since the piping is off to the side of the motor. while on a ZX2, it actually runs above the intake manifold and behind the motor, so it gets hit with alot more heat then it would on a eclipse cause of it's intake piping being routed on the side over the tranny. the temperature varience must just be enough to keep it from warping.

you are supposed to use abs piping, it dont melt and destroy your internals like pvc does

i wouldnt do it... order sum bends from jc whitney, and a hacksaw... use your imagination, and a coupler or two

edit: i done sum crazy shit w/my intake, and the aem cai that im runnin now w/da aem filter is the best so far (at least it has responded the best to my other intake side mods)...

I have a friend with a GSX with PVC parts, and he runs 12s. He has yet to have any distortion to his "Home Depot" intake. I dunno, but I think that he tests the thermal limits of things under the hoods more then any all motor 2GNT.

Dude's if you don't wanna use PVC then use ABS that's what my home depot CAI was made of And seriously that thing will never melt, my engine bay never got super hot until I installed a stage 1 turbo kit.

you can get a cold air intake off ebay for around $50. i don't think it should melt.

i put my pvc intake in front of the cooling fan so i get plenty of aire and it stays cool most of the time.
