#35119, "Test pipe and no CEL... is it possible?"

Ok, ,I just got done putting on my headers and test pipe, Took the Talon out for a drive and voila... no CEL, I didnt do the resistor mod or anything, is this possible? I was expecting it to come on as soon as i started the car up. Anyone else have no cat and no CEL?
Just wondering if my O2 sensor is shot or something...

I thought I would get lucky and not have a cel after I gutted my cat. Unfortunately the damn thing came on about a day and a half later and never went off. Ive got the resistors, but Im just too damn lazy to put them in, lol.

Ya know, after i gutted my cat, i expected the same also. I didnt put in the resistor until a good week after i did the gutting. No CEL ever came on in that time. I drive the car on a daily basis also. Wierd... It will most likely come on within time though, as the ecu will look for a bad cat over a period of time, not just minutes or several miles..

Took just over 3 days for my CEL to come on after I gutted my cat. I also have the resistors in my car but haven't installed them yet.

You could do what I'm gonna do... You take a pipe splitter with a valve on it, and put it right before the cat, and run a pipe around the cat to another pipe splitter with a valve, then you get to be street legal when you need to be, but when at the track, throw the valves, and no more cat. emoji

If you go to radio shack, the part# for the resistor is 271-1356 (1/4 watt, 1 megaohm, 5% tolerance) the color code for this resistor is brown-black-green-gold. It cost 99 cents for a packet of 5.

Exactly. Put this resistor in-line with black wire at the rear o2 sensor. So basically, find the black wire under the car by the rear o2, cut it in half, and put each end of the resistor to each cut end of the black wire. Presto, no more CEL. If you currently have that CEL light on, dont forget to erase the code before you start the car up for the first time after the resistor is in.

I had the code for a week after I gutted the cat and now I have never gotten the code since no matter how many times I reset the ECU in the last year or so.

I've had my gutted cat on for about two weeks now, and no CEL. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
