Ive got a odd problem here that I hope isnt serious. I have been noticing that my idle is sometimes high ie 1500RPM, and fluctuates...Tonight i decided to look at the throttle body to see if i could find leaks because i was hearing a popping sound. The popping sound is coming from the #4 cylinder. It pops everytime the cylinder fires. Also, it appears to be pushing air out the top of the spark plug hole because it made that seal that the plug wires attach to the valve cover gasket pop off. Not where the actual plug attaches to the actual wire, but at the top of the plug well where the plug wire attaches to the valve cover..... Does anyone have ANY ideas what could be causing this? It's only on the #4 cylinder. Also, the engine runs well other than the weird idle and the popping sound speeds up as RPMS increase.

have you changed your spark plugs recently?? Its possible that you didnt tighten down that spark plug enough and everytime the plug fires the force of the explosion is pushing it out. Id check that out first

on my friends Jeep 87 Wrangler, he was leaving work, then BOOM!!!!!, he opened the hood and saw a wire dangeling, blew that spark plug out of the head. He was lucky it didn't go through his hood, no dent either, strange thing was that it was still attached to the wire!
